Hi,

I am desperate in seeking knowledge.
I have two Guniea Pigs both eat, drink, pee, do a poo-poo as normal and without problems.
The thing is that one of them (2.5 year old) wont go out of the cage and as soon I put him on the floor He goes stright to some dark calm place (under/behind the armchair, under the bookcase) and lays there on the side without moving.
When I put him back to the cage He runs stright to his house and lays there in a corner and will not go out exept for eating and drinking.

The other one still act as normal, He run, play, and He go to look after his buddy and care of him.
I was with him to the Vet but He could not find any reason to that behaviour.

If anybody has an idea what it could be I would be greatfull.

Cheers
Pawel :(

Welcome to the forum!

I have a piggy like that. He spends most of his time in his house and only comes out when he thinks noone is looking! When I put them into the run, he'll hide in the tube. He's just very shy. His friend is very confident so sounds similar to yours and he looks after the other pig.

How long have you had your pigs? Has he always been like this?

I was just going to raise this point. I have just looked after 6 gorgeous pigs for a lovely lady on the forum while she had a holiday. Now her boys are older than mine I would say 1.5 years plus and all they did while here even though I put them in a 5x3 run for play time was sit around in the sunshine and not do much.

So I am wondering whether they are just chilled at this age and it's nothing to worry about. Mine are young all below the age of 1 year 3 months and crazy so I've no knowledge of older pigs but I did notice a difference in behaviour between the two sets.

Perhaps though something has spooked him if it is a change in behaviour.

:)

Hi Pawel! Oh the poor little piggy is probably a nervous piggy. Did you get him from somewhere or did you have him since he was a baby? If you just got him, what kind of environment did he come from? It could be where he came from. If you got him as a baby, was he always like this? I know piggy's tend to be nervous. Mine runs like the dickens when I try to take him out. Once he's out though, he's all over me. I heard that it's their natural instinct to hide. (because of preditors in the wild) But to hide in his cage seems rather odd. The poor little baby! I hope he comes out of his shell! Good luck with him and I hope someone here on the forum may know something about his behavior.

I wouldn't worry too much, probably just a bit nervous. Piggies can be funny little things. When I went on holiday my mum looked after Ginger (now in rainbow bridge) and she gave her food which she loved like celery and cucumber and she refused it all. As soon as I was back home I bought her back to my flat and gave her celery and cucumber and she ate it fine :)

Hello Everybody,

Thanks for many tips and replies,
Actualy we have taken the pig from the other family because their doughters get allergy.

However He has been with us for 1.5 year and before that happend he run and played around with our other pig that we have hade since earlier.
There was no problems at all with this one.

They used to play orund, eat together, chase ech other and so on.

This happend so fast in the matter of two or three weeks, and the other pig is laying beside him, lick his ears and nose but He can't go out, as I see it.

Cheers

I think that is wise. Sounds like there is something not right but I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it. Keep us posted.

Just wanted to say you can take the other healthy pig along to the vets with his friend for company, we always do this i think they find it less stressful if they take their mate along for the ride :)

wil not go

I am back from Vet,

It seem that it could be food related since I gave him much of corn-cob fow two weeks or more. Then when I found that their poo-poo was not looking like before I stopped giving them the corn-cob and instead they get lot of grass.
This could be, said Vet, the bad thing since lot of grass after Guinnie has not eat grass for a while could cause problem with belly.
He also get an injection with B vitamin.

However He is still calm and quiet.
Now I think that could be something that scared him so He is simply frightening
something.

Once it happend with the other guinnie, I saw it with my own eyes, when a big fly flew into his house and he was so scared that he wont go out for two days, no matter what we did to make him go out.

So maybe this time it happend to this Gunnie.

I hope it is the matter of time when he will run again.
At least He eat, drink, do a wee-wee and poo-poo.

Cheers
Pawel :)
