I bought my hutch a few weeks back thinking i was getting just 2 guinea pigs - but am now taking on another girl that lives with the so just wanna be sure its big enough -

Its a double hutch that is 4 feet heigh x 4 feet wide x 2 feed deep ... will this be ok for now?

i am planning on getting a playhouse/ shed in a few months- but cant afford one just yet until the summer :)

I do hope this will be ok

Thanks

Jenny

I would say you can keep 3 piggies in it when you know they will use the ramp, not all piggies will. It can usually be adapted to suit piggies, though, either with something at the bottom to decrease the angle and/or vetbed/carpet on the ramp for grip. Some cover the ramp to make a tunnel.

A double decker doesn't really have the room of 2 2x4s, since the cut out for the ramp takes away a chunk of the top floor and the ramp takes some of the bottom. There's also usually a divider on the top floor so that the piggies can't run laps like in an open cage.

I did the same as you... I was meant to adopt a pair of boars but they became unavailable and I was gonna get a neuterd boar and a sow, but ended up with two because we didn¨t want to break up Martha and Mette-Marit :). I built a bigger cage pretty soon :)

Thanks for the quick responce. Where they are at the moment they live in a double hutch (with a ramp) and have a run attached so i think they should be ok... and Am gonna buy a run with next months wadges :) - so thats extra space :)

Thanks - just wanted to make sure they would be ok size wise. :)

As i say its only for a few months until i hope to upgrade... :)) :)

Hi Jenny, my three girls live in a double 4' x 2' hutch too and they have lots of space. As long as they're happy with the ramp they should be fine :)

aslong as they use the ramp i think it will be fine until you can upgrade, especially if it means a third piggle gets a nice new home! :)

That should be fine. My 5 piggies use their ramp easily, so I'm sure yours probably will too. They sounds like they're really well looked after :)
