Hi folks,

Me again with another question!.....

will guineas use a pipe connector kit to travel from hutch to run?

if so, over what distance?

Do the grooves get full of poo/wee inside? if so...
Are they cleanable?

Many thanks,

Jo :ple::hmm:

Hi! You can use pipes to connect a hutch and a run over a short distance.
- However, guinea pigs don't like to travel on slippery surfaces, so you need to provide some kind of flooring to give them grip. it has to be something that is cleanable and doesn't get damp or mouldy.
- Additionally, you will have to make sure that mice and rats cannot get into the hutch at night nor can cold drafts at night and during the colder months of the year when any outdoors hutch should ideally be brought under cover and out of damp and weather.

Personally I think it is going to be a lot easier and safer to train your guinea pigs to come into a transport box and to provide some kind of housing that is slightly off the ground and provides dryness, warmth, and protection from cold drafts in spring and autumn, as well as giving the piggies the possibility to eat hay.

Make sure that any run and hutch is safe from cats, dogs, foxes and birds of prey with a firm top and good achoring to the ground. Depending on your neighbourhood, you may also need to make sure that it safe from humans.

I've had runaround tubes for my rabbits before. They have holes in so wee comes out but the poos stayed in so I'd disconnect and tip them up and hose them out occasionally. BUT, I recently put a similar piece of tube in with my pigs as a toy and they loved it but as their poos are long and thin (not round balls like rabbits poo) they all lined up in the corrugated bits of the tube and were a nightmare to clean out! I wouldn't recommend over a large distance.

thanks for the advice...that's what I thought might be the problem!
