So this happened within literally a 15 minute period. I have a 11 month old Rex that was perfectly fine and healthy, earlier in the afternoon he was breathing normally as all the past months I’ve had him but when I came to check on the piggies in late afternoon, I heard a strange noise - like it actually sounded like a farm pig was in the guinea pig pen. It wasn’t terribly loud, more like a subtle snorting noise? None of my cavies have made that noise but after a little investigating, I found that it was my Rex that was making the noise.

I checked his breathing and it sounds like he has mucus in his lungs but he doesn’t seem to struggle - like he is still very active, he eats and drinks normally and there are no discharges from his eyes or nose.

I get that there’s the whole URI for chest related issues but he doesn’t really show any symptoms of it except for the wierd noise he’s making.

Also, his breathing seems fine when he’s calm and lying around but he makes that strange snorting noise when he’s running and eating.

I’ve already booked for a vet appointment but I just want to look for answers of what it’s may be.

Piggies rarely show symptoms as they are a prey animal and don't want to show any weakness. There main aim in life is not getting eaten!
