Yesterday I put Reggie and Horace in the same cage and everything is going well (perhaps too well?). When I went to bed last night I was just going to sleep when I heard this really strange noise coming from the pig pen. It sounded like a bird chirping, what a fright I got, thought something had happened but I got up to look and there was Horace making this strange noise. It was nice but when your trying to sleep at 2 in the morning it's slightly annoying! He kept it up for a while then stopped. Anybody any ideas? Is it a happy noise or a I'm scared get me out of here noise? Never heard anything like it in my life.

Are they still ok?

I think if it was a fighting noise, they'd be really fighting by now. Perhaps he was singing his new friend a song!

I've never heard a noise like that, normally guinea pigs wheek lightly when they're happy or popcorn and run around.

Or when they want something they squeak REALLY loud like when i mum cuts the veggies Oakley squeaks like a parrot! LMFAO!

Guinea pigs do make a noise like a bird chirping but not many do it. I have only heard one of mine do it once in the 6 years I had her. Nobody seems to know why they make this noise. I have heard that when one does chirp all the other guineas stand very still as if in a trance. When mine did it (which was very late at night) I went to the hutch but she stopped as soon as she heard me. The other 2 guineas in with her were standing very still. She never did it again though.

WOW you are so lucky to hear this, it is not a bad noise, I dont really know why Piggies do this but it is REALLY REALLY rare to hear it.

My mum had a mummy pig who was in a hutch with 3 babies, and a neighbours dog barked. The mummy pig made a chirpy noise and the 3 babies all hid. I think she was telling them to hide because of the noise!

You were honoured to hear that noise, not many do! None of mine have ever done it ::)

Thanks everyone. It was just like some of you said. I heard him doing it, jumped up and put the light on and there he was with his wee head stuck in the air making this noise and he stopped when i approached the cage. Once the light went back off he started up again! Unfortunately I haven't heard him do this again at least if he does do it again I know it's nothing to worry about!
