Hi, I have had my girls for 3 weeks now and they are only a few months old. Obviously when we first got them they were so shy, they have a box for their house which they used to sleep on now we have introduced a proper house they tend to be in there all the time. Since putting the bigger house in they have become so scatty that any movement i make sends them runnin for shelter. They still run away when i try and pick them up but give them bell peppers and treats while havin lap time to make them feel that they can trust me. But they are still so scatty at any movement. I sit beside the cage for a while a day and put my hand in every now and again so they get used to me. But nothing much is changin in fact they seem to be getting more scatty. Not sure why? Are there any tips i can have to make them feel more secure.

Hi
Not sure if I can give you any advice but just to let you know that I have exactly the same problems with my boys :red
They are 13 weeks old (nearly) and are petrified of me and just about everything else! I've had them for 3 weeks now. I just have to move on the sofa and they go into a full on panic. They dont wheek or anything when i give them veggies they just run and hide in the pigloo 8... I'm hoping that it is just a settling in phase.
Keep on doing what you're doing and i'm sure they'll come round eventually.
That's the plan i'm gonna try.
Good luck
fran xx

Don't worry glittze2001 and ginger piggy, this is quite normal !
Piggies will naturally run a mile if disturbed!
I find that i keep to a routine, in the mornings when i clean them out i always put my hand in and let them smell me, they do 'taste' me as well some days .....to see if i have food! Then once i've cleaned out i then put in some treaties, you will find with time they'll learn this routine and come racing out to see you x)
Keep sitting beside them and talking quietly, they'll get to know your voice and will learn to trust you :)
My girls who are nearly 8 months old will still do the same rolleyes :)) and our boys also did it as well :))
Lots of patience and keep getting them out for lap time, you could also lay out some towels and put down some pigloo's or hidey's (aka boxes) and let them come out and explore whilst you sit on the floor with them......this also gives them more confidence :)

i had my boys in june, and they were like that. now one-punky-is great he comes out and goes on his hind legs and sniffs my face, and tries to chew my hair! but drizzle, hes still near enough the same, when i walk in the kitchen he goes bolting into his house! I'm sure it will get better, but sometimes it depends on the piggie i think.gemx
