I have spent many days and many nights trawling this website all your pets are so interesting but harold is not. Plz advize, i want him to do tricks. :own: :yikes::wel:

Oh dear! I don't think guinea pigs are very good at tricks. What were you thinking of? I think people on here get the enjoyment from watching their pigs interact with each other. Is Harold on his own? If he is this might be why he doesn't do much. They must live with at least one other pig to be happy.

Welcome to the forum.

If Harold is a single piggy he’s probably not a happy piggy.
He needs a companion for his emotional well-being.
None of mine do tricks - they run around the cage, 2 of the like to chase each other. They popcorn and just watching them interact is the greatest pleasure.

I can’t make the link for you as I lack tech skills but have a browse through the bonding threads which will help you in planning for a companion.

Hello there 😊

It would probably help if we knew a little more about Harold, such as how old he is, how long you've had him and where he came from. As well as what his living set up is like (including if he lives alone or with other piggies).

If he is quite new, that could well be the explanation. They are often very scared and at first and will just hide away as much as possible while getting used to their new surroundings. You might take a look at this guide if you've recently brought him home and he needs help settling:

Arrival in a home from the perspective of pet shop guinea pigs

How Do I Settle Shy New Guinea Pigs?

There are a number of other helpful guides in the new owners section that you might want to read through (assuming you are a new owner - I'm not sure from your post!)

Pigs are amazing. I have never had one that has not been interesting!

They don't do tricks like jump through hoops or balance a carrot on their nose 🙄

But their characters, their quirks, their such individual looks, habits, make them truly special little animals ❤

Everyday with pigs in your life is a day to smile. OK, and sometimes cry.

I've been following this page for years now coz I was amazed how amazing her piggies in doing tricks. This is an old video but she has more recent ones in her FB and Youtube. I don't have the patience in teaching my piggies plus my piggies are all divas anyway.

@haroldtheeheartbreaker is your pig a lone piggy? He's probably lonely and piggies are herd animals and they need companions. He won't be "boring" and you'll see the change in him if you get him a friend. If you can search for rescues near you and ask for boar dating so your piggy can choose a friend compatible with him, that will be great. If you live in the UK, the Rescue Locator tab on top of the page is there.

My piglets love sleeping.
I have learned, as their "slave", not to wake them up during naptime unless I have veggies.
They can squeak quite loudly if I am being bothersome in my room. I suppose it isn't really mine anymore, is it, piggies!?
One of my piggies will stand on her hind legs and move her paws up and down if I have a treat, but I did not teach her that. 🤷‍♀️
The others are a bit too "top-heavy" to hold that position. 🤣

I have a nutter like that...her name is Vegas!

Hi!
In addition to all of the above I would give Harold a little veggie or treat when you come in the room so he gets used to you. Then you will see his cute antics more!

No you don't understand. We've had Harold and our other pigs for a year and a half and they all agree with us. Harold is just no fun! They all enjoy each other's company and try to include him but Harold just sits and contemplates. If you saw him, you'd agree!

I’m confused. Do you mean he doesn’t wheek or come to the cage bars for attention or want to be petted? Your post was very vague. Does he live in the same cage as the others or just alongside in a separate one? Or is it that he prefers his own company? That’s not boring, he’s just a chilled pig. If someone you knew preferred their own company would you call them boring?

My Dennis is chilled and doesn't do much but he certainly isn't boring! He's my Little Cutey Pie! When he's asleep he has the "lights are on but nobody's home look" which is really funny. When he suddenly he wakes up its "what? what? where am I?" 🤣 He never wheeks even when excited. "Boing Boing" is about as excited as he gets where as the love of his live The Ever Beautiful Betsy wheeks like mad. Dennis has learned from Betsy to get excited when food is around and popcorns in a little circle which is hysterical and then (thanks to Betsy) sticks his head out of the hutch door as soon as it is opened to grab some tasty morsel out of the food bowl. Appreciate the fact that you have a healthy piggy and look for the smallest things he does and celebrate them.

He sounds lovely. Send him over here if you're disappointed with him!

From sitting here for the last ten minutes or so, my Mildred is trying to sleep in an amazon box and not letting anyone in, Pepper woke up and did a big yawn and stretch then a big drink of water, and Olive is pottering about eating a bit of this and a bit of that.
Maybe someone would say they're 'boring' as they're not running about doing tricks, but they're not toys. Having guinea pigs as pets is a privilege to be able to watch their behaviour and watch them interact, if you want something to do tricks maybe you should get a dog!

I agree. The world of guinea pigs is a world of its own. Not like cats, dogs, or even rabbits or smaller rodents.

It's a wonderful world of piggy lips, hair in all colours and styles, beady eyes, tucked in feet, sticking out feet, wheeks, non wheeks, zoomies, non zoomies. Endless characters and characteristics...

Just seeing happy healthy piggies enjoying life is absolutely enough for me. Maybe I'm just easy to please 🤷🏻‍♀️

What do you mean "We've had Harold and our other pigs for a year and a half and they all agree with us."

WHO agrees with you. You've talked about Harold with his piggy friends?

Think my Jess, who is now 7 and a half, spends the majority of her life sleeping and the rest eating these days! But I love that about her, she’s happy and does what she wants, I’d watch her doing that for hours and still wouldn’t get bored! :luv:
Maybe I’m easy to please too! I am also a fish fanatic and they’re considered boring as well to some people!

I'd love to have fish too! Or a hamster even. Husband isn't keen though. He just about tolerates my pigs but does get jealous over them. Still that's his problem. I love all my pigs, past, present and future. Regardless of their looks, activity levels, interaction levels. I just think they're amazing little creatures. I feel privileged to have them ❤

Same here!
Fish are great to keep, I’ve got a 30g tropical community tank and my beautiful rehomed Arnie the goldfish (who has cauliflower disease and not considered beautiful to some!), love them! Hopefully you can persuade the hubby! 🤞

Does it take a lot of maintenance. Your tank

No, it's an FB link. Just copy the video link in your FB account (make sure the video is set on public) and then post it here.
You can also upload it onto YouTube and copy the video link onto here using the chain icon again making sure the video is set to public.

Maybe get some toys. Maybe he is bored so you think he is boring.

My Wilf is a very laid back piggy too. He sleeps a lot, but when he does he is interesting to watch as he seems to be dreaming, His ear twitches and one of his legs moves - I hope he dreams about the lovely snacks that are coming his way soon. He doesn't wheek, but will come to the corner of his house when I sit on the sofa waiting for a treat or two. He is a dear little soul and I wouldn't have it any other way. Please give your little piggy a chance and try to learn to love him the way he is and he will pick up on that
