As some of you will know we got a new friend for Jasper over the weekend. He is 8 weeks old. The pair get on well, and it already seems to be going better than when he was with Jem!
The only think i dont understand is when Dexter starts to do laps around the cage and appears to be playing, Jasper gets cross with him. He starts the rumbling and botty shake untill Dexter stops. Does anyone now why? Dex doesnt bother Jasper when he is being playful, so i dont see what it is that makes him do the rumble dance :))

Rumblestrutting is mild dominance behaviour, and perfectly normal for that stage. Jasper is simply telling Dexter that he's the adult and top pig, whenever Dexter is popcorning. Jasper is not cross, he's merely reacting/commenting to Dexter's play; like saying "I'm too old and too important for those shenanigans". It won't keep Dexter from having fun!

I am so glad that the two are getting on so well!

Ah i see! Thanks Wiebke, that makes sense. Like an adult making a child know whos boss? (ha, in some cases) When he does it Dexter puts his head under Jaspers chin in a submissive way, this must be him saying 'i understand your top pig' I love to read about their behaviour. Jasper is eating again, and is interested in his environment again. I hope it works out, Jem never submitted to Jasper and i think there lay the ****. When i see Jasper strutting Dex its different, Dexter backs down. Jem would stand on top of the house and rumble back. He is a little begger :)) Jem is top pig over his new pal Spike now and it works well, he can reign over his household!

Dexter sounds really just right for Jasper!

aaaw how cute....do you know that my Jemma and Abby are exactly the same (when they were together)

They are sisters exactly the same age and Jemma is more serious and mature and is dominant pig..........Abby is playful and loves running around and jumping and popcorning and being a bouncy piggy - I call her speedy gonzalez too cos Abby can run fast :(|) and loves joking around

In fact I should have called Abby - Tigger cos she is exactly the same as Tigger - bouncing popcorning and running around and having fun fun fun

In my avatar Abby is the one on the left and Mummy Jemma is bigger one on the right

My boys are 7.5months old and do the same thing.

The funniest thing is when they are both popcorning, stop and then start rumblestrutting at each other at exactly the same time!
