Why do vets charge so much for medication?

Why do vets charge so much for medication? I paid £22 for a small bottle of remand corneal repair gel from the vets yesterday. I’ve used nearly half a bottle already trying to get it in to Ella and Esme’s eyes so will run out soon as it needs applying 4 times a day. I’ve just brought the exact same bottle off eBay for £12.99.

My cat Harrison was on Thyronorm liquid before his thyroidectomy. It was £54 from the vets where as it’s £19.99 on vetuk (granted it’s a prescription only drug so would have to add the cost of the prescription on top)

I know that people choose to ask for a written prescription for metacam from their vets to purchase online as it’s cheaper

Teo hay pikes last year both cost over £100, I agree it’s shocking

Unfortunately you are paying for overheads.its costs to keep a constant supply in stock.vets fees to check dosage etc.Also online pharmacist have more power to buying in bulk.
Amimed direct sell remend.youdo not need a prescription. I always keep a bottle in my first aid kit.

I looked into buying the boys Metacam on line but by the time I'd paid the prescription charge (£20) and postage the saving wasn't worth the hassle of registering the animals with the on line company and trying to get a photo of the prescription attached to an email. Also I had to pay and order before sending the prescription so I could get the order number so if I couldn't send the prescription it would have been a hassle getting the money back. It's probably easy for those who understand technical stuff but I'm useless at it. I do buy all the non presciption meds for the boys on line though.

I paid £28 for my tiny bottle of remend.It is mad the prices these days.

I think Remend is a non prescription drug and you can buy it online (10 ml is prescription only)

on Animed direct 10mls for dogs and cats remend gel does not require a prescription.

Thank you. It is a non prescription drug. I bought a bottle off eBay but this is cheaper x
