Hopefully this isn't a completely stupid question, but I was thinking about this earlier while I was reading some general information about guinea pigs.
According to wikipedia, guinea pigs are not related to pigs and are rodents, but male guineas are called boars and female guineas are called sows, which are names used for male and female pigs.
If that's not strange enough, baby guineas are not called piglets as baby pigs are, but they're called pups, which is a term most commonly used for baby animals who are part of the canine family, like dogs and wolves and foxes, etc.
I think guinea pigs are suffering from a major identity crisis!
