Hi all,

My piggy Chess has a white scab on her nose which she has had for a while. Took her to the vets in April and they said it wasn't fungal (Vets4Pets). Its not increased in size and hasn't caused any hair loss in the area.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

This is the best picture I can get as she doesn't sit still  Its under the hair in the middle of picture

Dry skin maybe? If it isn’t any bigger and it’s not fungal or sore or hair falling out maybe keep an eye on it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon. 😃

Usually a white nose scab is suspected as fungal but if the vet has ruled this out and there is no hair loss or soreness and it hasnt got any worse, perhaps its just a birthmark or area with different coloured skin? I wouldnt worry if the vet has checked it, they often use a UV light now for a rapud diagnosis, that would make any fungal spores fluoresce and show up as bright glowing specks- if they didnt see that it isnt likely to be fungal and most skin infections present with hair loss and irritation which doesnt seem apparent here.

Okay thank you, thats reassuring :) I don't really know what the vet did but they didn't think it was fungal.

My guinea pigs had white scabs which turned out to be ringworm, but the scab on your piggy doesn't really look the same type of scabs mine had. If she isn't losing hair, scratching herself bloody, and has been checked by the vet, I would just keep an eye on it 🙂
