Hello,

Wondering if anyone had any advice on the below.

We adopted a little teddy pig earlier this year to join our herd bringing us to a total of 6! Unfortunately he had to have surgery for an entropion and since then has had ongoing issues where he has felt the need to squeak when trying to urinate and poop, we believe this was caused by the stress of the surgery.

Since the surgery he has had 3 x-rays, multiple urine analysis and ultrasounds and none have shown any signs of stones, no blood in urine etc and the vet at the time recommended a course of baytril and metacam for a few weeks - the issues still existed and we were recommended to visit an exotic vet.

The exotic vet was able to identify sludge in his bladder and recommend a change in diet (filtered water, low calcium veggies - a similar diet to what is shared on this forum) as well as a course of baytril, metacam and hypervase. Over the following 2 weeks saw improvements in him, however he still squeaked sometimes when he pooped so we took him back for a check up once the medication was nearing it's end. The exotic vet recommended we continue with the low calcium diet and provided a longer course of baytril, metacam and hypervase which was about 2 weeks ago (we have about 2-3 weeks left of this medication).

One thing we've noticed today is some white lumps around his private area, we are not sure how long these may have been there but it is not something any of the vets have mentioned. I was wondering if anyone has had something similar before, they look like cysts and do seem to be stuck on i.e. they do not come off. Happy to post a picture, just didn't want to post it in advance and put anyone off their dinner!

Many thanks,
Lee

Hi!

Please see a vet. We can only guess based on your own perception, interpretation and choice of words without any other access to your guinea pig which means that our guesses can only be as good as yours.

It would help a little more if you could please post a preferably clear and well-lit picture so we can at least get around your word filter. It may still not be enough to ascertain what it is and make a hands-on vet visit unnecessary but it would give us a bit of a fighting chance.

My guess would be either 'boar glue' (dried semen fluid whose vernacular name is a very adequate description) or him lying in dried calcium pee but please accept that I am trying to target shoot in the dark here.

Hello,

We will certainly be taking him to the vets, was just curious while we wait for the appointment if anyone had ever had something similar to ease our minds - unfortunately he's not had an easy start to his life and at one point we had to take him to the vets 5 times in just over a week after his surgery due to the issues he's had following the surgery.

I've attached a pic to this post.

Could it be a build up smegma, boars do get it under their foreskins, or perhaps boar glue?

Whatever they are they don’t want to move. We thought if it was glue or smegma it would more easily come off when being cleaned and he is showing a lot of discomfort around that area if you go anywhere near it.

Will wait and see what the vet says

Oh poor little man. Sorry I’ve no answers for you, but hopefully your vet can get to the heart of the matter once he is examined again.
