Today I noticed my hairless guinea pig had some white discharge in one of his eyes and I’ve never seen that before. I googled it and have read about how white discharge is natural for cleaning, but I’m still a little concerned. I watched him clean himself and more discharge came out of his eye and he did not wipe it away or anything. I don’t know if this is normal and if I should take him to the vet?

Hi!

This doesn't quite look like the milky eye cleaning fluid to me, which normally drains through the tear duct. Please have your piggy vet checked for a possible respiratory infection or eye injury or something else in the nasal as well as the eye area. It requires a hands-on examination.

All the best! Does he still have the crusts or new crusts?
Since you cannot accompany your piggy into the clinic right now, you may want to message the picture to your vets and add a note where to find the picture to the carrier box.

Tips For Vet Visits
Yes, there was some new crust this morning. I’ve been gently cleaning the crusts off with a wet q-tip. I took him into the vet today and got some eye drops for him that should hopefully help his eye clear up soon! The vet said he got some bacteria in his eye, so it isn’t life threatening or anything.
