Noticed this morning my piggie has white discharge around her eye. Her nose and other eye are totally clear and her breathing is normal for her (she’s nearly 8 and has had some lung issues in the past that means her lungs aren’t 100% perfect)
She’s eating/drinking/pooping completely normally but is this a sign of a respiratory infection or eye infection? I know piggies make white “cleaning fluid” from their eyes so is it normal to have it build up?

I’m still going to make a vet appointment for her tomorrow due to her history but I just wanna know how concerned should I be and if I need to separate her from the others to prevent spread

It could possibly be the cleaning fluid but there is no harm in having her checked out. But please don’t separate her from the rest. If it’s something contagious then they have already been exposed to it anyway. And it can cause stress and lead to a bond breakdown.

Hi I’m just a civilian no piggy or veterinary training but I always make sure I have some of this in my piggy first aid box and make sure it’s in date. My vets know I use this on eye problems and treat them at home. Obviously completely depends on the scenario but it really does work a treat for conjunctivitis or crusty eyes. It can be pricey though

Milky white fluid is cleaning fluid and sometimes it doesn’t all get absorbed back after cleaning.
Do see a vet if you are concerned and don’t put anything in the eye yourself.
They don’t need to be separated for eye issues in any event, but any separation has the potential to ruin a bond and as such medical separation are not recommended

Just back from the vets who confirmed it’s an ulcer in her eye. We were given isathal so hopefully it’ll be cleared up soon
