whistling makes you purr!

when i whistle near my piggys, florence makes this aort of puring noise ^) why does she do this? its so sweet!
 
When mine hear a funny sound they make a kinda purring noise, I think it is out of fear though, like they don't like the sound. They do it if you make that sound you make to call cats (hard to describe!) or if they hear tape being pulled off of a parcel!

That's what I'd guess it is but not sure. And not sure why they do it, but I thought it seemed like they didn't like the noises.
 
Mine make that kind of noise when they don't like something, I think they're just telling me off really. We had to try out all the different rings on our new phone to find one the boys didn't burr at! lol
 
The purring noise you describe is an alarm call, alerting the others to a potential threat. Often other piggies hearing it will freeze, others scatter to avoid the threat.

Yeah, unfortunatly my new little one does it when I play my music. She proper freaks out and frightens my other two into hiding with her alarm...

...Guinea Pigs don't like metal by the way...

Even when the volume is low she complains. The other two have gotten used to it and I reward them by feeding them favourite treats when the music comes on. After all they need to get used to it, I need it to help me work >.< silly things. We always have music playing, it used to calm my other two down.

umm wait.... I thought pUrr was a good sound, thats atleast what is says on facts about guinea pigs and stuff... I pet mine and it sprawls all the way out and purrs like its tottaly happy...? I'm confused now

other people on here said the vibrate/purr sound is a good one and mine seems to do it when hes happy not affraid...
 
Mine purr when they are being fussed,their nearly falling asleep making this noise so i cant and wont believe its a sound of being scared,forgive me but buttercup is full of love and she always purrs when being cuddled and fussed.sue
