does anybody have this outdoor cage/run?
ive seen this second hand house with run, advertised for rabbits but I'm sure it'll be good for piggys?

2 questions

does anybody have one similar and can give me good/bad points?

can a piggy conquer the ramp to the house?

its a choice between this one (2nd hand €40) or the wooden/mesh one i posted about the other day (now back to original price €44),
cant decide which to go for?
this 156x60x72

your first option is nice that it has shelter etc. I can't really see the ramp but if this is just for using as a run not as permanent housing you probably don't need the ramp. if it is permanent housing then it is an okay option but I'd need to see more pictures.

The second one looks good for moments out in the sunshine, I have a hutch made by that brand and the wire is VERY strong! it's not mesh it is real good strong stuff.

To me the second one certainly looks really nice for moments out in the sunshine. It would be very predetor-free etc. The first one also looks like it could be good especially with the sheltered part, I'm not really sure what I would choose. Probably the cheapest! But they both look good options. And 4 pounds different isn't too much for good quality.

You can always put in a better ramp if you need to.

Whatever you choose at a glance they both look like good options, we'll see what others have to say.

I'm trying to weigh up pros and cons for each, by 'looking' at them, but dont know what they're like in the flesh so to say so far

1. outdoor hutch/run

pro - 156x60x72, longer that the other..more place to play
pro - comes with shelter/hidey area/somewhere to sleep above without taking floor space off piggys
pro - cheaper!

con - its 2nd hand
con - not foldable so has to always be out

2. outdoor run

pro - its new
pro - no house so optimal running room!
pro - strong wire

con - no shelter/shade
con - higher price
con - smaller than no.1
con - no mention as to whether its foldable..cant see any hinges..

found a pic of a similar one to show how the ramp goes
k3.jpg

gobsmacked at the price.. €179!

that is very pricey.. and looks really small for rabbits

but i like the look of the 2nd choice :)

Yeah seeing that similar picture one (or is it the same?) it looks FAR too small for those rabbits. They look cramped and have no space to freely run. Well I looked at the picture of the 2nd hand one again and I think it is a different but similar one.

I was just thinking a larger run for a smaller price sounds good if it's still got the quality.

well I'm going to check out the 2nd hand one in the morning, its apparantly 156cm long (which is 60cm longer space than the new run for the piggys to enjoy) m hoping that pic from online just used mega large rabbits or is out of proportion or something! I'm weary of buying the new one as they have none 'made up' that i can see first before buying. id hate to spend that money then find i need a second one as that is too small!

I like the one with the sheltered area included, but my only concern - is the ramp rather steep for guinea pigs?

ramp is no problem if they find it too step, i can always make a different one :)

hey spishky :) who is the second one made by looks very solid! i would be interested to see what other products they have thanks x

Noooooooo

[*]First one [/*]

Good Price.
Good roofing. (apex roofing is the best to buy)

Bit too small
Made of chicken wire so its weak
The "run" well.... foxes and creatures can dig underneath that. Not Great.

[*]Second one[/*]

Strong & sturdy Wire
Spacious

But i'd only reccomend it for an outdoor run where you watch them all the time.

[*]compromise! [/*]
Add better latches
Buy a Hutch cover and blanket to keep the warmth in.
Sort out the bottom when its night time, (foxes digging into it)
Replace any chicken wire.
Change The Ramp it looks a little steep.

I've got the first one you show and I really dislike it - the ramp on mine is central, too steep, and no sides -so the pigs won't use it. And to get into the run, you have to bend over the side which is too high, making it almost impossible to catch the piggies (they run under the hutch bit, where you really can't get them). It's also not very heavy / sturdy.

Just thought I'd let you know!

I'd rather have the folding run and a separate shelter box :-)

welli went for the first. managed to get a peek at the second one and it was tiny! the first is not as big as i thought but ample enough for four piggys to have a good playtime. this will not be used 'overnight' id like to add. i just needed an outdoor run. sadly i have to make some adjustments. its only accessable through the roof of the hutch bit, so once piggys are in its impossible to get them back out without lifting up the whole run (then off course piggys escape everywhere!) so i'll be making a door on the 'run' part and extending it for more space. for the rest, well, its really nice! well made in my opinion. but id never ever ever pay €179 for a new one!

guineawig, i have no idea who makes the run in the second pic, they are sold by a supermarket type shop called colruyt - collishop
