I currently have two piggys, marshmallow (2) and honey (4m) getting along great and live in a 120cm cage, I want to go bigger but unsure what to go for.
Cannot go for c & c as have 3 cats also who jump up on the cage occasionally so it needs to be a more sturdy commercial one. I doubt theyd actually do anything but still they have instincts so it needs to be secure.
I live in a flat so they would spend time in the cage plus a daily runabout in the hall, can't trust them on the grass outside as it's communal, well used and who knows what is out there! plenty of veg instead though :)
So, my options are:140/160 basic cage from little friends or a 150cm one from trixie. I did see one that was just under 138cm (benny I think)with two wooden platforms but obviously the top one is too high incase they fell off, it was quite tall though so wondered if i could make a safer platform, therefore more space ?
Any ideas on making more room for my little piggys?
I'm also on a budget so currently scouring ebay/gumtree at the mo!

If the barred portion of your cage is flat packed, or not solidly put together you could always take off one end, buy another 120 cage and take the end off that, put them together for a 240 cage

You could remove/fold up the side panels from two traditional cages (which are easier to come by secondhand) or connect them via a plastic drain pipe piece if that helps your budget. Make sure that your cages are the same depth so you can wire them safely together. A log tunnel also makes a good bridge if you are not a DIY person. ;)

Piggies generally prefer ground floor space rather than climbing space.

Well I learned that the hard way, I did switch to a double tier cage but one piggy refused to use the ramp so as they liked to be all together I only used one level really!
I did have two cages stuck together the top and bottom of the double tier but my diy skills kind of failed and so just have the one cage now, plus I was thinking if I bought the longer single cages they are wider so a bit better perhaps?
I've also come across a square cage thats 100x100 and if maths is correct would be inbetween the 140 and 160cm cages in floor space.
Ill make a desision next week as I'm visiting the pet show at the weekend and might see something there :)

Someone on here has that square cage. They are in Australia I think and had it shipped over. @Lilly is it you?

Yes, it's me. I bought the 100 x 100 square cage and had it shipped over to OZ. The postage cost more than the cage! But worth it. The boys and I are very happy with it. @chocdonuty it would be inexpensive for you living in the UK as it is on for almost half price + free shipping. http://www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/indoor-square-cage-rabbit-guinea-little-friends-p-16632.html
Here's a photo of it in use at my house.

Ooh that looks great, you never can tell the real size unless there are actually piggys in the photo! I've found this one on amazon for £55 which isn't bad tbh, it's a shame zooplus don't do bigger than 120cm anymore, I'm guessing to do with postage :\

I've gone for the square cage, more room to move about in without the sides getting in the way :) although I could still extend it using another 100cm cage, must stop buying stuff lol! I may try to put another level/shelf in if i can, hopefully a lounging area with fleece, my previousy piggy petal, loved to snooze up on the top shelves with legs out :)

That sounds great! I bet you can't wait until it arrives.

I've been thinking about how I could add a top shelf as well because in my old 2 story hutch Hazelnut liked to sit upstairs staring out the barred doorway. I can find wire shelving or grids that I could attach across but nothing in black, only silver or white. Would like to see any ideas you come up with. Mind you Hazelnut seems happy enough because the cage is now on a table and he is higher than before!

I did wonder about getting another cage from the same supplier that was 100cm by 54 or maybe a cheap one from ebay and if I connected them I'd have two spare 100cm sides that I could use as a shelf (covered with something), otherwise it's possible to have a piece of wood cut to size then just pop two small lengths of wood under it and through the bars to hold it up, It's not getting delivered for a couple of weeks so plenty of time to think :)
