Hey there!

I have been looking at moving our boys over from Shavings to Fleece (Mainly as they have destroyed the door areas of the correx on the top and it will stop my floor being littered in wood shavings aha We have a 3 stacked 8x2 that is split into 1 8x2 and 2x 5x2 and 2 x 3x2 so it's going to be a big job but the top floor boys make such a huge mess that I would like to test them out of fleece first, instead of making 8x2 fleeces just for them I'm going to eventually end up with a bunch of 3x2 and 5x2 so they can be swapped into anywhere accordingly

my main question is, what do I fill them with! I know this question has been answered many times before but I can only seem to find dead links to "Mattress protectors" being in the UK I can't get hold of Uhaul sheets which seem to be the go to, and have read Towels can be fussy to dry, (if anyone can vouch other wise I can work with that) but is there a certain type of mattress protector that isnt TOO pricey that someone can point me in the right direction of please :)

We get ours from Tesco trouble is for the purpose you are looking for it's got to be Cotton top. Or it won't absorb then over that you put the fleece. A single one over here is about £10. You don't fill them with anything. Uhaul, sorry I wouldn't have a clue with them. Are you in the U.K?

I Am, I'm from manchester :) Ive read that the INSIDE has to be cotton not just the outside though? or is this wrong information?

Yes I'm UK based its the top that has to be Cotton, Tescos used to do Cotton on top but I don't know now, anything else the water will sit on the top. Have a look on Amazon they might do some Cotton ones. When you track them down get twice as much. You can't tumble dry them as they shrink, so you need two. As regards the question about inside, sorry I only know what we do. I'd be happy if anyone knows different though.

I used mattress protectors which were cotton for the inner absorbent layer

I also used zorb which is pricey but brilliant

Washable continance pads are absorbent but heavy.

I sew them inbetween two layers of fleece.

I got mine from tkmaxx but yes, they need to be cotton. A polyester base is ok providing you don’t have that side against your fleece.

Hmm interesting as we have a spare mattress protector..I dont think 3 layers of newspaper and towels then fleece is cutting it anymore with the two adult pigs in..knowing us it will be polyester..meh..

I have really struggled to find 100% cotton ones.... I make my own cage liners and use incontinence washable bed mats - not heavy and dry well and wash well at 60 and never had much shrinkage (.only a bit but they are 3 yrs old now ).... if you find some - let me know 😊

I use washable incontinence bed pads, available on Amazon/Ebay. They wash fine and don’t take long to dry. I keep everything separate though as if I made fleece pads big enough for the cages, they wouldn’t fit in the washer!

It looks like I might have to go with incontinence pads, they are a on the pricier side compared to what I've seen of mattress protectors, but I wonder if this is for the reason above that a lot of people grab them with cotton outside and polyester inside, I'll get some of the thicker bed pads ordered and see how we get on with them :) meanwhile ill keep an eye out for the 100% cotton filled protectors :) Thanks for the input everyone, I wish a company would just make Uhaul pads in the UK haha

I use waterproof mattress protectors from Tesco and B&M. I want to try the incontinence pads. Is there any particular thing you look for?
