Hi Everyone

I'm a new member to the site although I have been getting useful information from the forum for a few months.

We as a family are on the cusp of getting three guinea pigs and I have been researching hutches for them. I thought I had found the perfect one, 6ft and the ground, however it would require a separate run. Then husband said that when he had guinea pigs they were kept in a group hutch/run so they had ready access to the grass at all times, although I believe they could be shut it at night. Something like those triangular ones you see I think but the enclosed end had a wooden floor. I can't seem to find anyone else who keeps their guinea pigs like this and I certainly didn't as a child. He thinks it is important for them to have access to the grass everyday. Is that right?

Thank you for your help.

My guinea pigs are indoor guineapigs but we are going to start growing some grass for them (I live in a town house) I've seen some very good run/cage ideas on Pinterest. I think when the guinea pigs are in the run they need to be watched over and then in the hutch over night. X

Hi and welcome to the forum. It is probably best to have a solid hutch without access to grass, and seperate run for good weather days.Hutch needs to be secure at night so no predators have access .you can get cages that are used inside.Zooplus do some good runs /cages.Maybe if you have chance look in the housing section of the forum. In the winter it is avised to place hutch in shed, outbuildings or garage that has no cars in it due to fumes .Guinea pigs do not do well in freezing temps without some protection
It is exciting you are getting new piggies.Hope you find a good hutch.:)
