Hi all,

We sadly lost Boris recently, and this has freed up some space for a larger cage for Badger. I have had C&C's in the past but don't feel comfortable with their sturdiness, so am opting for a large commercial instead.

I'm torn between this cage:
Indoor Square Cage Rabbit & Guinea Pig by Little Friends

And:
Rabbit 120 x59x50cm LARGE Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage

I'm leaning toward the square, as the square footage is larger.

I will be attempting to adopt a companion for Badger in the coming months and will obviously need a cage big enough for two boars.

Input anyone? Thank you

I can't comment on commercial cages, but regarding the sturdiness of C&C cages, have you tried connecting the grids using cable ties instead of the connectors?

HI

I dont think either will be big enough really think the minimum for 2 boars is 140cm. I had the 140 cm Rabbit 140cm LARGE Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage before I went c & c. I really liked this cage but if I had the money at the time I would have gone for the 160cm cage

Hiya, my local rescue states that the minimum required space for two boars is 4ftx2ft, which is a standard 120cm cage, and that's the RSPCA guideline. Obviously bigger is better but I am space limited - I would be going for the massive ones however it's a matter of space for me at the moment :( I may look into the 140cm if I can re-arrange my space, I just hate how narrow the longer ones are!

I did, I had it like that for a number of years however we now have two boisterous cats, one of which is a A* predator so I'm not comfortable with them sadly. My cat is gentle but my partners is a savage! He'd bust into a C&C in seconds!

I also have cats who are very interested in the piggies, but I'm fairly confident they can't get into my C&C cage. HOWEVER, my base and lid are each one large solid grid, not connect small grids like around the side, so that might make a huge difference in the sturdiness of the cage overall. Always best to go with what you feel is safest and a cat that's out to get the piggies definitely needs to be taken into account. I really hope you find one big enough and sturdy enough to allow you peace of mind.

Regarding the two cages you linked above, whilst generally I would say longer is better, the square one does seem to have more space overall so I would be very tempted to go for that one if those are your only two options.

The square one is only 100cm long, minimum recommended size is 120cm long so I'd have said the second one x

I know they say a 120 for two boats on rspca guidelines but I really don't think it isn't enough for two boars when they are full size.Maybe if it had a large second level.I would try for a 140.

I would go for the square one as it seems more roomy.
I have used this type of cage in the past and the girls gave enjoyed, I have never had boars though so I don't know about their required space.
Best of luck to you and Badger.Xx

When I had a commercial cage for 2 I got two of the biggest, then took out 2 of the ends & put them together making sure that on the join they had wire on it & make sure they are secure with cable ties.Even with a large commercial cage I found it great for 2 piggies but not big enough for toys
