My four girls live free range in a shed but they have two of there stuffed with hay http://www.wiltonpets.co.uk/MoreDetails_44552_Lazy-Bones-LB315-Small-Animal-House.aspx they have four snuggle safes (given two at a time) which I haven't properly started giving them this year but when I do, should I give them a snuggle safe in each of the lazybones houses or just place them on the floor somewhere?

They were in a hutch outside for the last few years and I just put a snuggle safe in the bed area.

Hi,

I put mine either in their bed areas or just on the perimeter Of their beds. Although saying that, when I put it in the middle of the cage they then squabble to sit on top of them.

I've got two in my cage for 3 sows anyone in my bonded couple but now thinking I need more - paranoid or what!

Nah, you're not paranoid. I'd give mine one each 24.7 if I could rolleyes

as your shed is heated i would think its probably best to put them outside their hidey houses incase being inside them made them too warm. or just try them in different places and i'm sure your piggies will soon let you know what they prefer.

Mine are free rangers too and I'm planning to put 2 snugglesafes in each sleeping box (the top floor enclosed area of their hutch and their lazybones style house on the shed floor). I only put them in on nights that are forecast to be freezing or below - my thought is that the heat is maximised if they're encouraged to huddle in smallish, enclosed areas. At least then, they also have the added advantage of shared body heat. :)
It's a worry having outside piggies in the winter isn't it? :( I can feel the paranoia and neuroticism beginning....

Sorry, the shed isn't heated but I see your point. We were going to heat it but as we rent, we're not allowed due to health and safety:( their houses are pretty warm though

It is a worry and it's only going to get worse :( I checked on them earlier and there were two in one house and two in the other mallethead I'm hoping when it gets colder, they'll all sleep together.

Like you, I only try and put my snuggle safes in when it gets to freezing.

That's what mine are like. mallethead The absolute best scenario would be the 5 of them all cuddling up on the top floor, but Violet, Roxy and Floss seem to prefer the sleeping box on the ground floor...that's what's made me decide to just make the 2 sleeping areas as snug as possible. Hopefully, when it gets really cold, their survival instinct will kick in and they'll all get cuddling. :{
I really wish that I could afford CCTV - I'd love to see exactly what they're up to!

Same here. I originally only had one house and they all slept together in it but I decided to buy them a second one on Monday so they tend to split up a bit more now.

I've decided I'm going to insulate the houses with cardboard and blankets and then they have their cosies and stuff scatted about as well.

I just keep trying to remind myself that they have been in a hutch in the yard for the last few years (obviously with a cover, lot's of hay etc) but surely they're better off in the shed?

Mine have one, and I put it in the pigloo. It fits really nicely and, as an added bonus, helps keep them from shoving the pigloo all over the bloody cage!

I put 3 snugglesafes in their minished at night. 1 in a small house hidey thing and 1 in each of the snuggle-oos i've got.
