Both my guineas have been on antibiotics for quite a while due to a very nasty uri. Peppers been on antibiotics for 4 weeks now, and Rexy 3 weeks. The vet didn’t prescribe a diuretic but since rexy has some noise in her chest and peppers is mostly in her throat/ nose, i think they would help them very much. Does anyone know where i can buy a diuretic? Or are there any natural diuretics i can give them. Pepper has lost around 45g but is still active and drinking/ eating. Rexy is still as normal and has put on about 10g, but her lungs do have some sound still. Pepper has a whistle when she breathes. Thank you!

This is something you must discuss with your vets and only give under carefully monitored veterinary supervision as diuretics can cause other issues such as with the kidneys.

Have you discussed with the vet the possibility of nebulising? I have a small home nebuliser that I use with saline alongside antibiotic therapy to help with any piggies with URTIs

Yes, i asked the vet about that and he said to see how they are on the antibiotics (this was 2 weeks ago) and that there could be a range of different bacteria causing their infections, so nebulising could do more harm than good in the worst case scenario. I rang the vets and gave an update, and asked if i should bring them back in as there is not much improvement. He said to wait until the end of the course of antibiotics.
Dandelions sound good... i bought them these hay cookie treat things the other day which have dried grass, mint and dandelion in them, but they haven’t taken must interest so far. I might sit in a steamed bathroom with them tomorrow and see if it helps at all. Thank you for your reply :)

Really best to talk to the vet for proper dosing of a medical-grade diuretic... they can be really hard on the kidneys if given in doses that are too high. Trying natural things like dandelion leaves won't hurt, though.

Many herbs are diuretics (I can’t comment on whether your pig needs them as only vet can): parsley, cleavers etc as well as dandelion and others.
