Good morning everyone,

I'm looking at getting 2 guinea pigs for my 30th birthday. Could anyone suggest which is the best place for the hutch in the garden?, full sun, shade, bit of both?

Thank you, i look forward to the responses.

I have my piggies hutches at the side of the conservatory thats it out of direct sunlight, but still has light and also shade.
They dont have permanent runs attached (which would be ideal) but i havent the space and i let them have at least 5 hours a day in the runs, which i move around the garden, depending on the weather.
Good luck on the piggies.. and i agree.. they are addictive! :))

Not full sun incase they overheat (if this lovely weather continues) but still where there is plenty of light. Needs to be a sheltered spot for when the bad weather comes back. Also much nicer if its near to the house - more interaction and saves getting drenched when you feed them on those rainy days!

Welcome to the forum. :)

If you can keep them indoors, that is generally preferable, but outdoors is fine provided the hutch is very secure and is suitably weather-proofed. As the others have said, placing the hutch in the shade is better as piggies can be prone to heatstroke, and make sure you have a suitable shed/garage to move the hutch into in winter.
