I'm looking for a large folding guinea pig run and wonder if anyone knows where I could get one.

I currently have an old 6ft x 4ft folding run which has lasted about 7 years but it’s starting to fall apart and I can’t find the same one. There are smaller versions of it but I want one as big as possible.

The piggies currently has a 6x4 c&c cage (after another extension) so I would ideally want the run to be as big if not bigger than this otherwise it would seem cruel to be putting them in the run for most of the day.

On a nice sunny day, I like to put the piggies out for most of the day so I need a run that is going to be sturdy and be able to withstand any potential cats in the neighbourhood when I'm not in the garden.

The folding runs I’ve seen on eBay although looks like a decent length is not very wide and the wire mesh looks a bit filmsy from the photo but if any members here has one of those, then it would be good to hear your thoughts regarding them.

Riverside Hutches | eBay Shops I got my run from Riverside hutches. They do have a website but it is down for upgrading at the moment. On the ebay page they don't have the folding ones but I am sure a year ago when I got my run they had folding ones. Was a great price for a run and looks very sturdy (I actually never got around to putting it up last year. just used the old one). You could always try calling the number on the website I am sure they will be able to help you Home

Thanks guineapigfeet. Yes I saw this run and thought about it along with a run cover or 2 to provide shade for the piggies. I think it would be about the same size as my c&c cage. Perhaps you could answer a few questions about it for me.

How easy is it to fold away and does the roof comes as a separate part or is it hinged on?
How secure would you rate the wire mesh? If a cat was to claw at it would it withstand that or willthere be holes created.
I might get 2 and join them together as it looks like there are side doors at the end. Do you think that it’s possible?

Many thanks.

This is the one we use ;)

Outdoor Run Recommendations (post no. 5)

It’s 6ftx4ft and the boys love it. It’s not exactly a fold up jobby, but will collapse for easy storage :)

I bought my run from here (but my garden will only fit a ‘medium’ one ) and I think it’s brilliant

Large Folding Run

This looks great, thanks for the link! I'll be needing a new one this year and this looks plenty big enough and built sturdily too.

Am I right in saying the only assembly required is attaching the fastening brackets?

As far as I remember, the only thing we had to do was attached the little metal bits that stop the run folding when the lid is on. In any case, it wasn’t hard and didn’t take long!

I have the above run to but smaller size, very easy to fold away if it's the same design and the quality is amazing.

Rabbit Hutches also made a custom cage for me, again the quality was amazing.

It is very easy to fold away and store. It’s not particularly light (proper wood!) but is certainly fine for one person (though I have to carry the lid separately as I have small hands!)
The roof is separate and is placed on top, it has clips (I’m not sure that best describes what they are) fastenings that attach it to the sides so it can’t just lift off again - you have to undo the fastenings. Can see these in the website pics if you zoom in.

The wire seemed good to me, it’s proper galvanised wire rather than chicken wire and is attached to the wood in lots of places. I would say a cat couldn’t get in, certainly not quickly and without making lots of noise. Mines not been tested in that respect though.

Mine def has an *end* door. If you were to take it off at the hinges and remove the hardware, I think joining two together would be easy short side to short side to make a super long one. I don’t think there is a door on the side so you wouldn’t be able to make a double-width one unless you DIY it.

The runs also have brackets (that you have to attach to the lids yourself) that meen if, for example, a dog runs into the run/ lawn mower bumps it on the folding join, it won’t collapse inwards. You can see them in the picture if you zoom in. It’s a brilliant idea.

Edit: I think maybe we had to attach the roof fastenings as well as the brackets. . . Not sure, but the instructions made it easy and I think I remember all the holes being pre-drilled, so just a screw driver needed
