Now that I have 7 pigs, and all sorts of squeeking coming from 2 of them, thought it might be wise to pop into their medicine cabinate some urine test strips along with their metacam, critical care and stethoscope (good old ebay !) noticed Jerrybelly uses them and wondered where is the best place to get them from - and do they come with a little chart to tell you if its blood / too acid / alkaline etc?Must stress that this is not intended to replace a vet visit, only to be forearmed before I go in / keep a heath check on the herd.

Thanks Sport Billy- I have just ordered some.

Sorry to hijack the thread but curious about these. What can the result tell? And when would you use them?

Most of the indicators only apply to humans, but the test strips are particularly useful for testing for the presence of blood in the urine

I pop my chronic cystitis piggy Petal in a spotlessly clean container with some nice wet veggies like cucumber etc then I suck the urine up into a sterile syringe (Like those used for feeding critical care) then I drop one drop onto the 6th colour along the strip which is the blood indicator one, as sometimes the colour from the two yellow squares alongside will run into the important blood one giving a false result. The blood test one should stay yellow if clear of blood, it turns green (In varying shades) to indicate blood present, if it shows that then a vet trip is absolutely necessary :)

Yes we suck the wee up with a sterile syringe too and drop it onto the test boxes on the strip this avoids things running into each other.
