Just wondering what the general rule on this one is, our vet didn't give a specific duration we should continue the treatment for for Picchu's ulcer? Is it when the eye is back to looking totally normal or should you continue after that? He's not 100% better yet but a million times better than before. He is booked in at the vet on 5th May for another check up, so I was thinking of continuing with treatment up until then but I think he'll be totally better by then as he's already 80% back to looking normal, just a little cloudy.

It really depends how bad the damage to the eye is. Is there any way you can call the vets and ask how long they think you should keep going for. It will be hard for anyone here to advise on this as we cannot examine or scan the eye. Eye issues do heal quickly but there can be damage even once the eye looks normal so I would keep going for a while

That's useful to know, I thought that when it looked normal we were all good but as damage can remain I'll keep going until his next appointment 😊

Hi

Please always keep going until your next check-up vet appointment. Your vet has the training and experience to judge how long the healing process is likely going to take; you haven't. Your vet would have told you clearly during the examination if you were to stop any part of the treatment sooner.

The cloudiness in the eye is a very obvious sign that the healing process is still underway and that any medical support should not withdrawn in order to not put a full recovery at risk.

Great thanks, I thought this was the case but just wanted to check that sounded normal as we've (thankfully) not had much experience with meds before. 😊
