Hi
looking for some good advice about keeping boars.
following the death of one of my sows (only 4 days after giving birth) I have had to hand rear 4 orphan boars. It has been very rewarding and they now live in a 9'x4' run with dry sleeping area and other bits of things to enrich thier environment. They are now 7 weeks old and are still getting on very well. At what age are they likely to need separating, or is it likely they will continue to live happily ever after as a foursome!
Thanks

This is my opinion and I am sure someone with a tonne more experience will be along shortly :)

I wouldn't just seperate them for the sake of it - I would perservere with it and see how it goes. Some will bond with others and some may not. I would only seperate if huge amounts of blood has been drawn.

Keep an eye on their fights - mine have little scraps but as long as one doesn't draw blood and annoy the other piggie too much, it is just a thing boys do for dominance.

Again this is just my opinion and something I am currently going through!

I have to agree, if they are still loving one another then I wouldn't seperate them just because. Some people have a trio of Boars... perhaps your four will work out. It sounds like the have plenty of space so as long as there is four of everything and no major fights are breaking out then I don't see why they can't live together as a big happy boar family :)

Happily ever after boars!

Thank you for the replies. I'm glad to hear what you have suggested. They get on so unbelievably well. I'll keep an eye on things for now then and see how we go
Thanks :)

If they're getting on well then totally leave them to it. Things can change even years down the line but cross that bridge if it arises. Most boars will scrap over something or other at some point but thats normal. Sounds like you have a great foursome, lucky you! :))

I'd have to agree with the above theres no need to separate just because theyre boars and if theyre happy together just keep a close eye on them once they hit the hormones and make sure any dominance doesnt get nasty. :))
