Hello,
I am hoping anyone can tell me when I will know when it's safe to house two guinea pigs together.
They had a very successful meeting, no chattering, eating and grooming together pretty much instantly and have also been popcorning.
The pair is an older male and younger male.
Thank you.

When you decide to bond them, you have to make sure you’ve got time and to see it to the end. No bonding and then putting to bed separately. If they seemed to get on on neutral ground then put them back in the cage together. Please make sure it’s at least 150x60cm and there is two of everything. Boars are more territorial.

If you were interested in knowing, the bonding was a huge success. They are currently sharing a cage (two of everything) and are getting along quite well. Thank you for the link also, I've heard that at a certain age boy boars become quite angsty since they're having their own little puberty so I'll definitely have a read of that. :)

Thank you for the update! All too often we never learn about the outcome.

You may also find our proper bonding guide interesting as it is also a guide on learning how to spot key interactive behaviours.

We have got a pretty comprehensive body of information guides on a wide range of topics. The easiest way to access them is via the guides shortcut on the top bar where the links are grouped thematically. Otherwise they are somewhat jumbled up in the green field at the start of each Care section. Our guide format allows us to update threads or replace outdated ones at need in order to keep up with developments (unlike with any books).
Here is the shortcut link again, which you may find worth bookmarking: Guinea Pig Care & Information Guides
