I was feeding my pig his critical care and syringing him water and he started coughing and almost gagging off and on for like five minutes. Right when he started coughing I stopped feeding him. I’ve been checking up on him and I can hear him wheezing. He’s still nibbling on some hay but never went back to eating as much as he was before going into stasis. He’s getting critical care multiple times a day until his bloat is completely gone. I’m so scared for him, he can’t catch a break. By any chance will he be able to cough it out if something really went inside his lungs? I talked to my mom and we’ve already spent almost $500 on vet bills because of his arthritis and bloat and going into stasis. The vets prescribed me baytril for the redness on his feet that they suspected was bumble foot. I have it at home, is that going to help his lungs in any way? My old piggy was prescribed baytril for his pneumonia and it cleared up. I don’t want him to have to be put to sleep as he still isn’t eating normally and is having some bloat. I just want him to be okay, I’m so scared for him. I almost know he aspirated either some of the food or water I was feeding him and I feel so guilty. Will the Baytril do anything to help clear his lungs?

You do need to get your boy checked out by the vet. We can’t tell you whether he aspirated or not I’m afraid. Good luck.

I’m going to call back the vets. He had a recheck for the seventh but I’m going to try and schedule it as soon as I can. Thank you, I hope it all goes well.

Yes I’d take him to get checked out if he’s still wheezing. Good luck.

Frank is going to head to the vets tomorrow morning, after noticing him wheezing because of aspirating water being syringe fed after going into stasis. The stasis happened because of a bad reaction to baytril for possible bumblefoot, and he ended up not having bumblefoot as I suspected. (it is 12:53 am where I live) I hope he’ll me comfortable enough to make it through the night. He is about to have his metacam and has been drinking more water which makes me have hope. He’s lost two ounces and is resisting being hand fed and I’m scared to stress him out considering his condition. He’s eating some hay, and all his pellets. I noticed a blue tinge in his lips and his feet looked pale which I learned can mean a sign of acute heart failure. His bloat has gotten so much better and he’s pooping and peeing pretty okay as of right now. His breathing is still fast and shallow and I’ve put his chest up to my ears and I can definitely hear him wheezing which breaks my heart. I hope he’ll be okay overnight, and he’ll head to the vets first thing tomorrow hopefully. Wish us luck :(

I got back from the vets a little while ago! They took emergency x rays of his lungs and said they were all clear, no fluid in them thankfully. They said he is still in stasis, so they prescribed more gut stimulant but his bloating has gone down significantly and all he’s done since I got home is eat hay and drink water so I’m proud. I’m gonna monitor his weight and hope for the best. Thank you everyone for all your help and advice. :)
