Do guinea pigs use a wheel? I had a large one for my hchinchillas years ago, big enough for a guinea pig, but would they use it/like it?

As Gizmo said Guinea pigs' backs and spines are not designed to bend that far back so wheels are not suitable for Guineas, They are not so bothered about running like hamsters or chinchillas so I doubt they would use one! Just give them some floor space time if you are worried about them!

Wheels and harnesses are not suitable - as others have said, their spine is not designed to curve inwards like hamsters. Harnesses restrict movement too, a happy piggy will popcorn and it's back will arch upwards...
I imagine it would be as painful as a human lying face down with their chin and feet in the air for a period of time :{
Leave these kind of silly things well alone, piggies can have fun with lots of other things like tunnels and hidey's etc.
Lots of great info and tips on here :)

Thanks for the insight, having never seen one use a wheel I had guessed as much that they wouldn't use one, had no idea it was because it would be painful for them, glad I didn't waste my money!

I've been surprised how agile they are mind you, I was under the impression they couldn't jump, but they can! Mad little buggers, need to build some levels in their cage as I've not found any pre made ones for my cage :( Just think they need a bit more to do in there.

They love coming out, especially seem to like playing in Joshua's castle!

A popcorning piggy can jump quite high - open pens (C&C) have recommended heights of 14" :))
Our lot are too lazy now so we cut the grids down at the front to around 8" but have to make sure there is nothing for them nearby to climb onto otherwise I swear they'd be out :{
If you're new to piggies, you are in the right place here as we like to hear stories and be able to help others who have any issues or assurances :))

Mine will happily jump 10" into the rabbits hutch if they can see uneaten nom noms - greedy agile beggars! :))

I had a couple years ago, plus looked after some rescue ones when I did some volunteer work. But they were all older animals, and probably a bit over weight :/
I had rats too, lots of rats!
Haven't had small furry pets for probably a decade so feels like starting again in some respects.
My son adores them, I can't imagine growing up without a small furry friend so it was inevitable something would join our family so I chose guinea pigs :D
Thinking of getting some of the c & c stuff to make them a big run in the living room, where's the best place to buy it?
