the only one specific to the area is the fechan tart :)) from ecclefechan

delicacies for scotland haggis, irn bru, tattie scones, scotch pies, whiskey, tablet to name but a few

Hmm well I know whenever any of us visits my aunts who live in Barnoldswick we have to take stotties and pease pudding ( the proper stuff, not the nasty tinned stuff ) another is Panhackelty which is fried potatoes, onions and bacon ( or corned beef ) some people put cheese or tomatoes in as well.

hehe I wasn't sure if the forum would allow the fechan bit :)) - I have never tried this specific tart but apparently it is reallyy nice[/quote]

pmsl what a stunner:(|):(|):(|):(|)

i will let you know if i ever try the tart to let you know what it is like - going to try some canadian delicacies in just over a week well excited :(|) x

it's split peas which ( the way I know it ) you boil with a bacon joint ( or a knuckle the way my mam does it ) with seasoning then leave it to set. It doesn't sound very appetising but it's yummy

Hmmm.. We have Lancashire Hotpot and close by Bury is famous for it's black pudding (which tastes nice as long as you don't think what it's made of!) and also Eccles/Chorley cakes... Yum!

Cawl for the whole of Wales, its lamb broth with lots of veg (leeks, carrots, potato, sweed etc..), bread and butter, and a lump of cheese!
and must not forget Welsh Rarebit - that's cheese on toast to you non-welshies! :))

forgot Bara Brith! It's a sort of fruit cake with lots of currents in. Very nice with butter on. In my town (carmarthen) Prince Charles took a liking to it when he visited here, and named it the Royal Cake. My nan bought it to try, and disaproved of it strongly, saying her's was nicer! lol

mmmh not sure of any Glasgow delicacies ..... if there are any it'd probably be Irn Bru and deep fried mars bars .......if they could count as a delicacy ....lol

I dont know anywhere that does deep fried mars bars :)) dont think I would try one if I had the opportunity though :))

I think either potato scones, scotch broth, chippies, and people our way seem to think of kebab as a delicacy :))

Now you mention it I've never seen them anywhere either ... lol

Agree potato scones and chippies for sure ..... :))

In Hull you can get a pattie from a fish and chip shop. I have not seen them anywhere but yorkshire. It is just stuffing and mashed potato fried in batter but it is all I can have from a fish shop apart from chips. There is also "american chip spice" which is not american, made in Hull and not even known about in other parts of Yorkshire.rolleyes

ive had deep fried mars bar and toffee crisp they are yummy..

Another one springs to mind for us stokies, puding, chips, peas and gravy from the chipy mmmmMMMMMmmmmmm

one not good for your teeth, something we did when we were little sugar sandwich

Yorkshire pudding is the one that springs to mind for Yorkshire. Proper homemade though!

(Delia Smith once cooked Yorkshire pud on tv and after that I went right off her. Put it into a medium oven!! Good grief!)
