Hi Everyone

This is my first proper thread here at The Guinea Pig Forum.

I have 2 6 month year old male texel guinea pigs and I'm still deciding what
bedding to use due to there hair.

I've used wood shavings/sawdust but that's all got mangled up in there hair
causing knots and lumps of hair mixed with sawdust. I have removed most
of the mangled sawdust/hair mix by trimming it down but some is too close
to there skin so I'm going to bathe them in the morning and try and get it off then.

I've tried meadow hay that still doesn't resolve a thing. It does the same as what sawdust does, which kinda annoys me.

I've tried bathroom mats/pedestal but that get's covered with poop in around 2 hours.

I'm starting to get stuck on ideas for bedding. I want something that is cosy for them and not feeling like a brick slab. They are indoor guinea pigs and they are currently in with meadow hay just whilst I figure better bedding out. I clean them daily but some reason it still sticks to there fur and get's all knotted.

Anyone got any ideas for me? I don't really want to have to use any of the top listed things I've tried permanently because it becomes too much for the guinea pigs and myself.

i had a texel and have a peruvian but i bedded mine on fleece with litter trays .Litter trays had shavings and hay in.Think whatever you put them on will catch in their hair.

I have a lunkarya and I'm forever picking bits of hay off her in the end after battling with lice and hay I just chopped her short. The hair is very course so everthing gets stuck. I jave her on fleece with hay in trays but hay would still get stuck. If you consider cutting the hair permantely short it shouldn't be an issue I am going to keep her short for now I think as she also hated being brushed.

Trimming fur is what I did with my LH I left only a thin layer long along his parting so he still looked long haired but all the underneat was clipped very short.

I had a gorgeous texel :) I used wood pellet bedding, same as i use for my lionhead rabbit and put the hay in racks /treatballs.

I have a Peruvian cross and she is bedded on Fitch paper bedding, I've never had any problems with it getting stuck in her fur! :)

I trim my guinea pig, but not entirely short. He has the odd piece of hay stuck onto him, but it's easily brushed away, never had it knotting his fur. I guess fleece would be the least troublesome bedding and you could maybe buy those rings of hay that you can hang up so your piggie wouldn't be sleeping in it?

Thanks to everyone who's commented.
They've had a cut and I'm still waiting on
a right time to bathe them seeing as they're
very nervous piggies.

I'm going to try "Fitch Paper Bedding" so thanks to whoever
suggested this.
