I’m trying to understand weight loss.

Please just say what you would recommend for the examples (none of there ever happened). Just say advice if it was an adult.

A. A guinea pig loses 50 grams in one year
B. A guinea pig loses 100 grams in one year
C. A guinea pig loses 50 grams in six months
D. A guinea pig loses 100 grams in six months
E. A guinea pig loses 50 grams in three months
F. A guinea pig loses 100 grams in three months
G. A guinea pig loses 50 grams in one month
H. A guinea pig loses 100 grams in one month
I. A guinea pig loses 50 grams in one week
J. A guinea pig loses 100 grams in one week
K. They just drop a bunch of weigh in one day

Also, do guinea pigs weight vary by as much as 30 grams in a day?

You weigh your piggy every week.
If they lose 50g from one week to the next then you switch to daily weight checks, step in with syringe feeding. If the weight loss continues the over the next couple of days, syringe feeding needs to be increased and a vet needs to be seen.

If they lose 100g within 24 hours it’s an emergency and they require a vet immediately.

Any slow weight loss over a longer period (a few weeks) ie they lose less than 50g each week so it isn’t of concern on its own but it accumulates to make a continual downward trend which amounts to between 50 and 100g of loss over a few weeks also requires a vet check.

The weight varies in a day because a full bladder/tummy can cause it to fluctuate.
