What's a chav?!

Am getting more and more confused as to what a chav is! 98) I read somewhere that Jimmy Choos are now chav wear and you should wear Manolos instead... what next?! These chavs must be very wealthy is all I can say!

But really, what IS a chav?
 
I always thought it was someone who wore burberry, caps, trackie bottoms tucked into socks, wear air max, loads of gold jewellery and had a general air of k#*b about them!
 
How do they afford this stuff? They're generally young kids so where does their money come from? I'd like to be able to say it was from legitimate means but isn't that just labelling them more?
 
my 17 year old son says a chav is some one who wears a cap pointed up 98) likes drugs and drink starts fights for no reason bling on their fingers and neck and smokes to look big, some one who is in your face to look big,
a general idiot by the sound of it :tickedoff:
 
A chav in my town consists of trackie bottoms tucked in socks and boots 98) and the lasses always have a handful of kids, the poor lil things :-\

being 14, i can probably help you out with stereotypes ;)
chav is a person who listens to (but is not limited to) rap, dance, trance, rnb
usualy played on crackly phone speakers
wear trackiies for the boys, anything tight for the girls
with LOTS of tacky gold (from argos, or those little 25p candy machine thingies)
travel in swarms of 5+
most of them are lovely though

look @ the last row on the bus for examples O0

I'm nearly *coughs and splutters* 30..........there I said it!

My nephew is what I would call a chav and he definatelt conforms to most of the above, although he doesn't like drinking he does smoke :tickedoff:

When I volunteered at a shop we had a crowd of them come in and they kept giving me evils - eh, I don't even know you? 98)

I wear trackie suit bottoms around the house - chavtastic ;D

What is a Chav?
a young person, often without a high level of education, who follows a particular fashion; Chavs usually wear designer labels including the chav favourite 'Burberry', and if they’re girls, very short skirts, large hoop earrings and stilettos. Normally found hanging around shopping centres.
What is a Chavette?
A chavette is a female chav - Normally seen wearing sportswear, fake designer gear and large hoop earrings.

Here in scotland we would call a "chav" a Ned I would think .
The stereotypical view of a ned is an adolescent youth, of working class background, who wears fake Burberry, who engages in hooliganism, petty criminality, loutish behaviour, underage drinking and smoking or just irritating others, also they speak like someones holding there nose.
 
So... having to wear the branded clothes, having a 'walk' and wearing your collar up.. that sort of thing?
