Threepigs

Can I pick your brains please as I don't know what to do?

I have posted on here before about our three boars that we got a year ago as babies. They were cage mates from young, but are not from the same litter. Every couple of months there seems to be a bit of a spat and one in particular ends up bitten. At first it seemed to be the odd scratch, but last time he was quite badly bitten around the mouth and I nearly decided to separate them for good but gave them one more chance. This time they have ripped his ear and they have had their last chance. Basically there seems to be one very laid back dominant (I think) Rex, and two more that don't get on.

The one that has been bitten has always been quite shy and skittish. I thought the solution may be for Mr-Dominant-laid-back-Rex-piggie to split his time between the two other piggies so that there is only one on their own for a short period of time. But when I tried reintroducing the rex to the bitten pig today, there was a fight (realise now it should have been on neutral territory rather than the cage the bitten pig has been in, but have run out of cages).

So (sorry this is long!) would you leave the bitten piggie on his own in a cage near our kitchen, or introduce a baby to him (with the chance that it too might grow up and fight)?

If it was me i would remove the boar who has been injured (as blood has been drawn, i wouldnt re-introduce) have you considered getting a baby boar to bond him with? perhaps taking him to a rescue to see who he is most compatable with?
I think moving one between the others would mean that the 2 remaining ones wouldnt have a solid bond. Every time you re-introduce its like starting the process again.. I take it the other 2, they get on well?

Oh sorry, posted a thank you earlier, but it didn't work.

I didn't make it very clear that I have taken the bitten gp out of the cage and he is still looking really worried and scared. We have been thinking about a baby, but I wonder if he would be dominant enough to remain dominant when the baby grows up.

I guess I need to get him to a rescue centre to see who he gets on with.

Thanks again.

Often the roles can reverse when a baby grows up, and there is always a chance any pigs at any time can fall out, but really hope that you get sorted x

How old is your piggy? If you want to introduce a baby boar yours needs to of already gone through the hormonal stage.

He should be OK with a baby!

You can post a thread in the "Wanted" section.

Or if you can, ring around for a rescue within your reach that has several young single boars, and, if the rescue allows, have him bonded there or take him one afternoon to try him with different candidates, so he can find the one he gets on with best. http://www.guineapigrehome.org.uk

Wish you all the best for your poor boy!

Thanks Vicky. None of the rescues here had males available, but we have found him a baby friend now.
