I don’t use a waterproof layer in my pee pads just a absorbent layer in the middle, this works well but I have read a few times that I need a waterproof layer in the middle too? I have no idea what to use so some suggestions would be much appreciated :)

I don't use a waterproof layer in my liners.
I do however have a piece of oil cloth table cloth between the liner and the correx to protect the correx just in case a liner does leak.
But i only do that because I can't get correx here, so am trying to take extra good care of the stuff I do have.
I think a waterproof layer is only necessary if they are on a surface you don't want to get wet (like your carpet).

I don't have a waterproof layer. I use fleece, towel, fleece in my liners and then I put puppy pads underneath to see if they would leak. I haven't yet needed to change the puppy pads. The liners seem to hold in all in the pee and I only change them weekly.

I have my c and c cage on a table with correx in half of it and lino over all of it. I use zorb or mattress protectors or in one case reusable incontinance pad (too stiff and bulky wont use again). I dont use a waterproof layer.

Zorb is brills very absorbent so is the mattress prtector. All have fleece, absorbent layer fleece. I use extra mats under their beds where they like to chill which get shaken out each day. They also help to protect the liners from wee.

I have a large area for the hay trays which is where most of the wees go.

I actually have 3 metres of Zorb I am going to make a couple of pee pads out of first just to see how easy it is to work with then hopefully make a cage liner (gulp), is it just one layer? I currently use chamois that hold 10x the amount of water for their pee pads and they are awesome but the crowd I buy them off no longer sells them

Making liners is easy but unwieldy (if they are big).
The hardest part (I find) is getting everything cut out to the correct size and holding it together then you start to sew.
I think zorb is pretty easy to work with, and I always have 1 layer of fleece, 1 layer of zorb and then 1 more layer of fleece (so there is fleece on the top and bottom with zorb in the middle).

Ok, so I'm a bit stumped as to what to do next. I tried buying all the materials for a cage liner - fleece, zorb and a waterproof backing material. Didn't prewash the zorb as per instructions on the selling site. I had a lovely lady make them up for me and they looked fab, but when I washed them, the zorb shrank quite a lot and now they don't lie nice and flat and are quite a bit smaller too . They sort of still fit the cage, but really disappointed as it cost a lot to buy all the materials and they don't fit as well as they did at first. Does anyone else prewash the zorb before sewing it or do you just allow more zorb than you need, so that when you wash it, it actually fits? Hope that makes sense! :help:

How many layers of towels do you use if you don't mind me asking?

I didnt prewash my zorb. I make lots of liners anf have quite a bit of bare floor with just lino so the fit doesnt matter as much.

How very frustrating for you. I wonder if it is worth contacting the seller to mention that the zorb shrank?

With my pee pads I use 2 layers of fleece & in the middle a layer of mattress protector. You sew all the edges, then about 1 to 2 inches from the edges I sew another square, this stops the protector from shrinking. I would do the same with the zorb.

Not sure I'm with you Tiamolly123, sorry! I don't sew myself, so am reliant on someone else to do that. I was considering trying the mattress protectors instead, as the zorb ones don't fit well any more. I guess they're ok to just cut to size and then sew the cut edges?

I think she means top stitch it once youv'e turned the liner inside out? Is that right @Tiamolly123

I used Zorb in mine and I haven't had a problem with it shrinking. I do the same as tiamolly and once I have sewed it all together and turned it right side out I then sew around the edges again a couple of cm in from the edge and that holds everything in place.
I did fleece - zorb - fleece and never had any wee leak through the liner (only when the little treasures pee up the side of the correx and it runs down the side...grrr)

sorry for totally crashing in your post and asking a question. lol but ive seen a lot of people that have fleece, towel, fleece. I wonder whats the use for the fleece at the bottom if they pee can just go through the fleece, no? Right now i have fleece on top and then just a few layers of towels

So I finally got around to making a liner for the piggies cage with the zorb. It's a bit smaller than most people's because I don't have a C&C cage and well actually it turned out a tad to small anyway (I blame my OH's measuring skills) but I think it's not a bad job for a first time. Made a couple of pee pads out of some fleece remnants too although not very feminine but the shells look nice.
