Hi, I will be adopting a new piggie companion for Penny soon and want to put together c&c cages for their home base.
What is an inexpensive thing I can use as a bottom? I don't want to just throw fleece down on the cage itself- I think there should be something under the fleece as a solid bottom. I live near several home improvement stores and wonder if there is something that will work. Thank you so much.

You could use coroplast as an option. I personally have a table where I put the c&c cage on, so I suppose that's the base. Then I put blankets on the table to give the piggies' some cushion/support :)

Mine have a coroplast base, then I use inco bed sheets with fleece on top. They have fleece beds and pads too.

Hi!

Coroplast/correx is the most common bottom layer, but I am using vinyl for my flexible ground floor pens (you can get small offcuts pretty cheaply from a carpet shop). Even a cheap plastic shower curtain will do.

Underneath the fleece you will need an absorbent layer of fabric, whether that is cheap cotton towels, puppy pads or incontinence bed or chair pads. This guide here explains how fleece works and what you need to do to make permeable: A Detailed Guide For Fleece Bedding

Mine have correx (corroplast) directly on to the table top with three layers of fleece liners which are changed regularly. They also have hay trays, one each end of the cage with newspaper and hay in them.
