Well I am gonna be moving my room around and changing it to make space for a 2x4 (poss 2x5 if there is room) and I want to raise it up off the ground and use underneath as storage for their stuff and some of my stuff. I was thinking of making shelves underneath the cage with grids.

What do you use to lift the cage off the ground/as storage underneath? And do you have any pictures (any excuse :)) )

We bought a £30 table from Ikea. The piggies are more than safe from our dog and drafts and I don't have to sit on the floor for hours. Win win I'd say. Not that Taz was allowed in the room while they were on the floor mind. We still keep the door closed and have a baby gate on the door but even if he came in he couldn't see them. The table is plenty high enough for keeping the hay etc underneath. It's currently a 4x2 cage and if necessary when they grow we'll add a level to make more room.

My original 2x5 was raised off the ground just with grids. I put some old straw beach mats underneath to protect our wooden floor, like this:

I used the underneath parts as storage and I even found plastic tubs for the hay and pellets that fit nicely in the gaps. If you want extra shelves, you could always just cable-tie some grids midway up the gaps. I should add, the bottom parts do have grids at the back to make sure they were strong enough.

I think using spare cubes would be the cheapest option for me. What size boxes did you use? I like the look of the fabric ones, where could I find them?

We bought a fantastic table from Ikea for £34.99 as its 200cm long it's the perfect length for my 5x2 cage. It also has a central leg which makes it nice and stable. It's also the perfect height for me-no more bending down which means I can interact with the girls even more and they love it :)

Yup sounds very similar to what we were looking at.

I did look at the 2m table top instead, but it would have had to have gone across the window and that would have been a bit too impractical.

However, for £30 - couldn't go wrong. We bought the table top and 4 legs - just screw them in yourself.
