Sadly I am now down to just 2 little piggies, one is 7 years old and the other is 5 who has previously had a stroke. I am terrified for when one of them goes. They have been together 5 years and love eachother to pieces, neither would cope being on their own. However, I have reached that stage in my life where I cannot take anymore on :( ideas? I was thinking about adopting one to keep the lonely one company and then giving it back....realistically does such a thing exist?

I've heard some rescues will lend a guinea pig out to a lone single guinea pig but I don't know for certain if its true, just something I've read.

You could also try and find a new owner for the existing piggie as another option.

This happened to my pigs when i was wee. When Mopsy passed, Flopsy took it hard! I just made sure to give him tonnes of love and cuddle, and even bought him a teddy for the cage. I would also take his cage into my room at night for the first while. It did help a bit and he would cuddle up a.d wheek with his teddy. Also, i have seen an ad. before about foster guinea pig care. Don't know much about it but i'd assume it would be short term adoption of a pig waiting for a home. But i don't know much on that matter! :/ Might be worth a google! :)

I am now in that situation. We only ever had 2 piggies, that had been together since birth. About 2 months ago we sadly lost Peanut, who was 5, leaving us with only Caramel. Soon after Caramel became quite poorly, and we were worried we would loose him too. But now he is so much better and is his happy self again. I work from home, and with two teenagers, he gets a lot of attention. I know that they should really always be in pairs/groups, but we could never part with him, and don't presently feel that we could take on another. I'm also not so sure that Caramel would accept another piggy. As long as he gets a lot of love and attention it is ok, and if we feel differently or feel he needs a partner, then we will reconsider.

Thank you all for your replies. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any rescues near me (south england). However there is a pet shop that does 'adopt a guinea pig'. I am a bit skeptical? :(

Have you checkedte Rescue Locator at top of page or if nothing close enough then give your general area & I'm sure one of our members will be able to recommend one x

Stewybus, I was not aware that there was a rescue locator. I just looked and there is one that is about 45 mins away...got our paws crossed that this may be suitable!
