:ple: can any one help me I really do need some advice from you. I would like to have four guinea pigs, but I'm wondering what type of cage I would need. I was thinking on the lines of a 2x5 c & c cage would this be big enough for one male and three females?

A 5 x 2 C&C really is too small for 4 guinea pigs.
If you are new to guinea pig ownership it might be wise to start with 2 pigs in a 5 x 2 and see how you get on - leaping straight into have four guinea pigs with a more complex social heirachy might be something to look into futher down the line.

I had three in a 5x2 and I wouldn’t put four in there; it would be too crowded. I now have my three in a 7x2 and I think four in there would be fine.

I had 4 sows in a 5X2 with a 2x2 extension to make an L shape.
It seemed to work well for them.
I also have 2 water bottles and 2 bowls, plus 3 hay piles (usually turned into a single by piggies)

Thank you for your help, I have kept two guinea pigs for years now, so I was thinking about adding two more.
How much space would four need then?

Do you have space for an L shape?

Also have a look at what @PigglePuggle has done for her Tallulah- it’s in the phots and video thread I think

So I have three (soon to become 4) girls. I have them in a 4 x 4 Cc cage with a extra 1 x 4 loft space. They love the space and I would say that this would be a minimum space for them.
I read before that loft spaces can not be added to the floorspace as it is measured in where they can do laps and run in circles. Not sure if this is true but if not then it means my girls are in a 4 x 5!

I have attached a photo below of my set up. The area is a little messy as they have just had their dinner 😂

Minimum cage sizes are all listed in this guide which has also been linked above so please do read it Cage Size Guide

As you are looking for a run I would aim to go bigger than the minimum size otherwise they don't have much space to exercise

I have looked at a load of cage guide size charts and I am getting conflicting information a lot of the time, so are asking other people to see what they say as well. Thank you.

2x4 C&C grids is recommended minimum here for two female pigs (2x3 is the RSPCA minimum) and 5x2 for three female pigs or two boars/2 girls and a neutered boy. Bigger is always better so it could be best to see how big a cage you can fit and then look at how many pigs would be comfortable in it. I know you said you wanted four, but it would be better to have a happy two than a crowded and squabbling three or four

Yes I totally agree with you it just that I have a very 6 month old male which keeps on barbring my 4 month female and I have had to separate them at the moment, but not sure if he will ever go back with the female, so I am looking in to getting her some friends and may have to have him next door to them. I really don't know if he will grow out of it as he gets older or not, his barbring is really bad to where he goes right down to the skin. I am trying to plan the cage size and run size just in case things don't work out with putting him back with the female/s. Hopefully this makes sense.

There isn't a problem with barbering as long as he isn't biting the skin. I have one sow who barbers the top half of my neutered male. She started about two weeks after I got him and still does it all the time.

I had another female that my male barbered it was so bad that he wouldn't leave her alone, to eat or drink and at the end of the day she lost her life, then I tried him with my 4 month female piggie but it soon became clear he wasn't going to stop so I have had to separate them which this is far from ideal situation, as my cage is only 140cm X 62cm. I would like to get a bigger cage so that they would have more room to run and with the option to dived it if needs be, if my male has to be separated by a diverder I would like to have one or two females living with my 4 month female as it seems unfair that she wants to play with other Guinea pigs, I am trying to cover different aspects and be prepared for what might happen.

This is why I I need to even know different things about the run that goes out in the garden like with my run 115cm X 115cm would I be able to dived this in half for just two single Guinea pigs male one side female the other or could I have two females one side and male the other etc...
I just really need as much information and ideas as possible please.
