Hello I am new to this forum and wondering if you can help me. On Friday my 10 month old guinea pigs brother sadly passed away from a heart condition Tigger the remaining guinea pig doesn't seem to be too upset but I am worried about being lonely. Yesterday we bought two 8 week old girls. I had not planned to get another pig yet but there was a family with no clue who wanted only one of the sisters to live alone. So I decided to buy them. Obviously since he is not neutered they cannot live together so I was wondering if I should get him a companion from a rescue who will bond him with a spayed female or another pig to keep him company? If so could you tell me any good rescues. Au live in the Warrington area so anything up to an hours drive as I wouldn't want to put him under too much stress. Thanks in advance

I don't know any rescues in your area but maybe take him to one of these dating rescues and find him the perfect friend, well let him find his own. The only thing is I have read that you should keep females away from males...

I am very sorry for you loss! you are welcome to post a tribute in our Rainbow Section whenever it feels right for you.

We have got a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar, which should help you finding a vet you can trust for neutering; hat is the crucial bit. Thankfully, GA has become A LOT safer in the last few years, so it is no longer the dicey game it used to be and there are strong antibiotics available these days that can deal even with nasty abscesses.

Unfortunately, spayed sows are as about as rare as gold dust and there are not as many rescues in your area that offer boar dating.
Rainbow Rescue in Southport is probably your closest. Not sure whether they date or not, though.

If you can't bring yourself to neuter your boy and can't find a datable companion, you can always keep him nextdoor to the girls, so he can interact through the bars with them and get his stimulation that way.

It would be a great help for us when dealing with members from all over the world if you added your county/city to your details, so we can always tailor our advice and recommendations straight away. You can do so by clicking on your username on the bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location.
