As yet haven't purchased their indoor cage....just wondered how cold it needs to be for guinea pigs to need to come inside? mallethead

Mine stay out all year round. Even when we had nearly -20oC earlier this year, they were completely fine :)

But I think others move them in around October/November time. It all depends on whereabouts in the country you are I think.

Mine stay outside too (well they haven't had a winter yet, but my old pigs did).

Hiya,

Well, I think I'm probably a bit of a scaredy cat ;) as, although the two piggies I adopted last October, Maisy & daisy, (Daisy now RIP, but Mum, Maisy, we still have, along with our new addition, Dotty, Maisy and Daisy were always kept indoors, within a school corridor! Since we've erected the hutch and te weather started to warm, probably May time, I've put them both outside during the day and brought them in around 8=9pm.

I know they'd be fine outside during the night, especially now it's summer, but I just don't feel I can do it yet. Silly really, I know, but I'm a bit of a worry wart and know I would be up in the early hours, possibly tempted to check on them, lol. Plus, having to worry over them, just makes it worse for me and moreso for my family, lol, they'd be dreading it hee hee. ;)

I think though, if yours are outdoors, or rather if it were mine, going according to our weather approaching the winter, I would probably bring mine in around the middle to end of October, as it does start to get cold moreso around this time, merging onto November. :)

Sorry for the waffle. xx

your guinea pig is sooooooo gorgeous!

Mine live inside the shed all year round in hutches which is heated in the winter months. I do bring a group/pair into the house in the cc cage which I swap them over weekly.

Mine are outside in hutches at night between May and October.

Just before Bonfire Night their hutches move into an (unheated) greenhouse which although gets very cold in the depths of winter is sheltered from rain and wind. They seem to be fine. (They have LOTS of hay to keep them warm.)

The hutches move outside about the end of May when I plant tomatoes in the soil in the greenhouse which my piggies have been nicely fertilising all winter!

They are outside in runs all day summer and winter.
