What kind do you use and your piggies like the best?

I started with Cedar shavings then moved to pine shavings (softer but makes wayyy big mess)
Now I'm using the Carefresh Recycled stuff. Real soft and he seems to like that the best but is also more expensive..... But it also lasts longer then the rest so that is another reason why I have switched to that.

What do you all use?

i used to use Megazorb which is like small pieces of cardboard that has been wet and left to dry, very good but made me sneeze like mad!

Then changed to soft wood shavings that smells lovely and the pigs appeared to like it too.

I guess it depends on your pigs, mine were dirty boys and didnt care where they peeped and pooped!! (cleavage being a big favourite)!

I use Auboise. It's about £9 a bag from the local feed store but it lasts months! I keep my pigs outside so I don't mind the mess it makes.

We were using hay until the fungal infection, we now use ready grass which the boys seem to like and we have some vet bed in the bedroom which is nice and easy to shake the poo off:))

I use a fleece blanket, in the corner there is a litter tray with carefresh in it.

I can sweep any poops up each day, then change the fleece every 2-3 days.

I also use fleece and inco pads in my c&c cage.

The inco pads are washable and i change them every week, the fleece i change when needed.

:)

I use pine wood shavings that I get a huge bag of (for horses) for €10. It lasts for ages. Then I put some hay on top. But I'm experimenting with different things . . .

I also don't mind the mess cos mine are outdoors. :)

vetbed all the way for me!
And i have a corner potty with Chinchilla sand in
, which 2 out of 3 use :)

Hi,

I use fleece and towels because it's a large cage and would cost loads in shavings etc!

Also I don't like the mess of shavings etc. I change the fleece and towels every 2 - 3 days it is great and soft on thier feet.

Everyday I sweep up the poop and tidy

I use shavings at the moment, but am going to change to fleece as it seems like a good bedding for them and lots of people on here use it :).

I was using shavings up until the weekend but have had to change to puppy pads and fleece. It looks sooo messy though as they have got hay all over the fleece. So I am now building a C&C with a hay loft which will hopefully make it less messy looking

I tried fleece and it wasn't for me.

They've been on allbed, a type of equine bedding now for quite a while and it works well for us, the room smells much fresher. The only thing it getting carried through to the landing carpet on our feet.... but then it just means I have to hoover up more regularly, doesn't it? Lol

I got mine through Amazon from a company called Coastal Linen Supplies

I can never make the link work so if you go to amazon and type in washable bed pad you should find them. The ones I get are £8.50 each. :)

Well it says that they'll last in excess of 200 washes. I have 2 sets so even if I wash each set every week then I'm expecting to get about 4 years use out of them.
Some people have found that they can get a full weeks use out of them and just change the fleece every couple of days but my girls seem to pee at one end of their cage so I change the pads at that end every 2-3 days with the fleece. I only do a full change every 6 days. They definitely reduce the smell in comparison to towels and dry much better.

:)

As I'm new to the world of Guinea pigs I'm experimenting at the moment.

My boars are currently on hemp with hay on top and in the bed for night-time. The hemp seems to be good at absorbing urine whilst still keeping the hutch fresh. I bought mine from a local farm pet shop and got a 15kg bale for about £9 so it will last me ages. I'm hoping this bedding will suit both me and the pigs as there is so many options out there it can get rather confusing!

I use newspaper and hay for my lot :) They seem tolove fresh bedding and bury themselves underneath it all!

They live outdoors though, so it could be a little messey if you have indoor piggies

Oh, I also use a handful of Carefresh in toilet corners and underneath the waterbottle to help soak everything up

Fleece on incopads downstairs and shavings and a paper based kitty litter topped with soft hay on the hayloft. The reason I use a combination in the loft is that the kitty litter is SO HEAVY so I like to mix it up to get a bit mor bulk without adding heaps of weight :)

I'm using flax on newspaper at the moment. It seems to be quite good at keeping the floor dry, but I do change it every 3-4 days which takes ages and is quite messy. We're going to try fleece and inco pads soon (when they arrive from amazon. I hope no one looks at my search history!) with flax in the kitchen/hay loft (as yet unbuilt) which will be changed daily. I get the flax from a local feed suppler (B & J Dance in Swallowfield, Hants for anyone who's interested). It costs £8.50 for a 25 litre bale, and they do hay bales for £5. Bargain!

I used to use newspaper then wood shavings then a THICK layer of hay ( :) ) but then converted to fleece - it has most certainly been worth it and I highly reccommend it. I then have a hay rack & litter tray. Pros: you don't spend a fortune on bedding you just throw away, fleece is easy to clean, it doesn't mess or get chucked/fall out the cage, it looks nice and the pigs love it. Cons: the washing machine sometimes clogs up! But I do a pretty thorough de-haying before (shake out then fasten one corner to the washing line and brush down with a brush from a dustpan) and my machine hasn't clogged up yet...

Anyway, good luck finding the perfect bedding!:)

We used to use wood shavings with hay over the top but the piggies sneezed a lot from the wood shavings. We moved to newspaper and hay but it's extremely messy to clean out (about a 45 minute job for a two piggy cage). This afternoon we switched to vetbed. So far so good and Biscuit and Caramel seem to like it a lot :)
