This is my pigs eye, she’s about a year and a half old and it’s been here for a while but getting worse... i sent photos to the vet and called her and she said something to do with hormones but it’s gotten worse... any ideas?

My sister and I were doing some googling a few weeks ago and came across something called fatty eye. It could possibly be something like that if it’s not causing her any discomfort?
But my guinea pig once had an eye similar to that and it turned out to be an infection so I would maybe seek a second opinion just in case.. especially if it’s getting worse.

I have heard some pig owners say that fatty eye can happen when piggies are more obese. How old is she and how much does she weigh?

My little old Jess was tiny and she had fatty eye (or pea eye), it’s more likely to happen as piggies age rather than their weight I think.

Yup just went to the vets and she’s supposed to be 900 and she’s 1400 in weight 😂

As long as her heft is good for her (you gauge heft by feeling around their rib cage), then there isnt a ‘supposed to be’ guide when it comes to piggy weights - the healthy weight range is very wide

How experienced is your vet with guinea pigs?
900g is not a lot for a fully grown female guinea pig, unless she is very petite. It would certainly be considered on the lower side of average.
As long as she has a big enough cage and a balanced diet with limited treats and pellets, then she shouldn't really have weight issues.
And being overweight does not cause fatty eye.
