For about a month now he seems to be getting meaner to me. He kicks, chatters, snorts, tried to bite and so on when I need to talk him out or take him out for suggle time. Once in my arms he stops. Its getting to the point that I have to take the cage apart to get him out with out ending bloody. His cage isn't very big and until hes neutered next month I really can't move him in with the girls. His cage is Just under 3 feet long by 18 inches wide. He'll be a year in a few months.

Can someone put some light on to this situation? cause I have no idea why hes acting this way and since I have to clean his cage daily its kind getting to be enough.

He obviously doesn't like you interfering with "his" territory - you are treated as a kind of uber-dominant rival.

Could something like this be a solution, so you can get him out while you clean, but without having to handle him? Tempt him to go in with a treat and a gentle shove on his bum, if necessary.

Most of mine kick off when i try to pick them up, one in particular goes mental and there really is no taming her. I think it's just because they're not big fans of being picked up so it may sound bad but i don't pick them up unless i have to! I much prefer to sit and stroke them and have them come to me for food and attention! When i do have to pick them up i just corner them and get it over with :)) x

I'll have to give it a try. He only stared it in the last month. Could it be due to his age and hormones as well? He never used to be this way. But I'll give that a try.

When I first pick him up hes crazy but ask soon as hes out of the cage but still not close to me he stops. He never used to be this way thats why it bugs me so much.

Some guinea pigs get like that; just try and respect his "kingdom", and he will hopefully be more relaxed. How long until he can join your girls?

Twinkle is very much like that. I use a large bowl to pick him up and then put him in a basket to carry him around. So funny! But his safety is paramount.

Twinkle doesn't like being covered or anything like that, he knows when I get the bowl that it is steppy in time and he does it with ease.

It's so funny once I've got him in my arms he is so cuddly he just hates that initial feeling of being held.

Thats cute, I'll have to try that as well.

Basically, it's the same principle. Llewelyn sometimes chatters his protest at me - but he goes on his own into the pigloo, and he is very easy to handle from there!
