I think woodshavings myself, but I wondered what everyone else thought?

I think I have to go with both.

I use wood shavings covered with hay as their main bedding as I couldn't get on with fleece. But I also give them fleecy beds and cosies to snuggle up in

Yeah, I see your point. I think fleeces are good for cosies, but wood shavings are more practical for the whole cage. ;)

You want something over the woodshavings, such as hay.

It depends on cage size too. Fleece is fantastic for my big cage but it would be a soggy nightmare for a small one.

Fleece for me. It's been so much easier to keep clean and fresh and much quicker to clean out the whole cage. No dust, no mess. Simple. I've just started using Aubiose in their litter trays topped with hay but the rest of the cage is all fleece with lots of hides and soft beds..

I use hemparade (a hemp based bedding from zooplus) in their litter trays with LOTS of hay on top which they like to hide in, eat and wee on. That takes up around half the cage. The rest has fleece cage liners with absorbent middles with ikea dolls beds on.

They use the fleece area for chillaxing.

I shake off the poos from the fleece area every couple of days and take out the wet patches and poos from the litter trays.

I love fleece cos of all the pretty patterns and the convenience. I only need to wash the liners once a week.

I have discovered fleece thanks to this forum and I am extremely satisfied; but everything depends on the cage and also the place where the cage is. I prefer fleece because it is cost-free, because it is lovely to see and has no smell at all. I have free access to papers which I use an absorbant layer. I find it practical even for checking the colour and residuals of the wee. Calcium residuals are visible on the newspapers underneath and I can adjust the diet with some change.

This issue has been debated many times over and it's down to personal taste rather than what is better, otherwise what is better for the piggies or the human? You could say fleece is great for piggies as it's comfortable but it gives no ability for them to wear down their nails and frankly the more piggies you have the more you want them to wear naturally as it takes time to do that many nails. Fleece can be burden for the human. Wood shavings or similar is more costly than fleece...but does your piggy have URI issues...like I say it's down to the human and what they can manage.

A poll is useless in this sense. Sorry

I think a poll is only for satisfying a curiosity, nothing more...:) I will not change my cage and other owners will not change theirs...
It depends on so many things; for example: my piggies live free in the kitchen half day, from 4pm till 11pm and sometimes even longer. They would prefer a garden and a real ground not the tiles of my floor, but this is what I can offer and their nails, never clipped (I am not able) ,don't seem to be long... Of course they would feel better living in one of your wonderful house with a garden, not into a flat in Rome...
The important thing is that the poll was not created for debating about "fleece vs cat litter" or "living outdoor in Rome with 40°C vs living indoor with AC", because such polls have a totally wrong option.

The problem for me is that the terminology is wrong in which case...the wrong english language used. Perhaps it should have read 'which bedding do you prefer'?
That might have made more sense, but you can't ask what is better with only two types of bedding when there are others.

It's fleece for my boys. So so so much easier to clean weekly, less mess, and cheaper to wash instead of buying shavings all the time.

As for the issue of piggy pee, I have a folded up hand towel in the corner with a small amount of paper bedding. Poo is free game all around the cage, but they've learned to pee there. The occasional five dollar bag of paper bedding is much better than the biweekly big bag of wood shavings.

I also don't think they could ever go back themselves. The first time they had the fleece, my boys lost their minds popcorning and stretching out on the new soft floor for a nap! :) Dibbler still loves piling extra fleece scraps into the corner and rolling around/burrowing in it.
