I think I kind of know what it is but I am not sure.

So far I think that a run is a space where the guinea pigs can play in? Please correct me if I'm wrong :)

Also, do guinea pigs have to have a run? What if the cage is huge enough for them to run around in? Also, what if you just let them out of the cage in the room and just have a watchful eye on them? Or is that a bad idea lol

The rescue that I want to get my guinea pigs from said they need to do a house check first which means everything must be prepared beforehand. They also said they need to see a run hence why I'm asking the question.

Thank you for all your help in advance! :)

i thnk a run is an outside covered area where guineas can go out on grass, and , yes, run around."floor time" is when they run around on the floor indoors, in a safe place. x

A run is generally a contraption to give your pigs exercise (either indoors or out) while keeping them in a contained space.

If you have a piggy proof room, that you're happy for them to run around in and supervise them, then that's great! They should be let out of their cage for exercise as they really like to run!

Hi

We have two runs. One is for outdoors and is something like this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=812&pf_id=58488 they can then go on the grass and run about outside when it is nice and warm.

We then have two of these for indoors http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/runs_fencing/pens_with_racks/14521

It is recommded that guinea pigs have time to exercise outside of their hutch or cage on a daily basis.

We use the two indoor runs in our lounge so they can run around on the floor but can't go and hide underneath anything or get to any of the cables.

Hope this helps

x

Thank you everyone, it makes everything a lot clearer.

I think I will stick to an indoor run for a while and then decide for an outside run when it's summer again. Problem is, I don't want them eating the grass in my garden (not sure if my grass is healthy, I don't use any pesticide). I have foxes in the neighbourhood which come at night and my nieghbours have cats.
The cat sometimes urinates and poops in my garden {:| Saw him doing that last time even though I was banging on the window saying NOO! Oh well...

Now I'm going to have a look online for some runs! I saw one earlier which had a waterproof? mat to go with it underneath. I will keep the run in the living room where my birds are and where most family activity takes place. Guinea pigs will have some family time every afternoon.

Thanks everyone for the answers and pictures. :)

Here's my run where my piggies have supervised play time. I'm going to get a roof for it next year so they can play unsupervised. Rebel can climb through the mesh at the moment so has to watched constantly. ;)

LOL Not if I don't leave them alone... The guinea pigs will be hiding and thinking, if we go out, that huge giant who keeps tickling us will be there! 8...

The Highway Man! Argggh your name reminds me of teaching lol I was teaching this to my year 5's in my second year of Uni :^-
Nice to meet you :) Thank you for the picture, your piggies are either hiding in there or not there? If you have built that yourself then WOW... I could never do that, I'd end up with sore thumbs lol

I think I'm going to go with a folding run because I don't have much space to keep it open all the time. I saw this...

I really like it but not sure how good it is...?/

Bart is hiding in the right hand pipe, Lola is in the black pipe and Angel is in the hutch. If you enlarge the picture you'll just see the front of Bart's head. ;)

:)) I can see Bart! They make me laugh lol

I can already come up with a game... you have to turn your back for a minute (someone has to be a referee and tell the seekers to look once the pigs are hiding) then the seeker turns around and has to guess which guinea pig is where! :^- I'm sure it would be fun for kiddies but I know a crazy-adult like me would enjoy doing that lol

Sorry for being off topic and thanks to everyone for the help.
