What does it mean when my piggies lean back, put their head under their chin, towards their bum and comes back chewing? Both my girls do this a lot and I'm curious to know what it means.
This is totally normal! They are eating their poop! Guinea pigs have 2 different types of poop, one is fully digested and the other one is not full digested. They re - eat their poop so they get out of of the nutrients.
Guinea pigs, like a number of other species, produce two types of poos, the normal one that carries digested waste and the second variety that is produced at a different time and is generally lighter in colour and guarded very jealously, which contains valuable gut flora and nutrients which guinea pigs can't afford to lose and need to restock their guts. This process is coprophagy.
