I notice whenever I put Gilbert back in his cage after I've given him his medication Ryou goes up to him and sort of... presses his face/nose into Gil's fur. He's done it in different patches of his body but mostly around his side, closer to the back.

Yes Gilbert does have bladder problems. That's what I'm giving him medicine for daily and its whenever I put Gil back in he does it. I wasn't sure if he was being nice to him or trying to dominate him.

Ryou is well aware of his problem - he is touching Gilbert where the bladder sits in the body.

I noticed this with with my piggies, most notably when I dated my freshly bereaved bladder piggy Minx. The new girl would touch Minx where her bladder was and then stick to Minx' side, making it very clear that she wanted to take care of Minx. Indeed Dizzy was a very caring friend during the following months until I had to let Minx go due to a massive bladder trauma after her second stone op.

Aww that's so sweet. I never knew he was doing that. Thank you so much for telling me.

Rambo is forever pushing her nose into Maple's face and Maple tends to kiss Pecan and lick her eyes! It's so cute and caring :)

Aww. They're such caring sweet animals. I don't know how anyone can see them as 'just a guinea pig' They're more loving than some animals/humans

I find this just amazing. Reminds me of programmes I've seen on TV about dogs detecting cancer in people, or somehow indicating an unknown illness - yet to be diagnosed.

Wow that is amazing, just shows how intuitive they are. Gilbert is quite a poorly pig so bless little Ryou.

I would have said it was just a low-level assertion of dominance, my two boars do this if I take one out without the other.

I think he knew Gilbert was ill, Hermes, as he started protecting Gilbert not long after I posted this and now Gilbert has sadly passed on.
