I was just wondering if anybody could give me some advice about what to use to line their cages.
At the moment I am using paper and care fresh. As you can imagine on a 4ft x 2ft cage this is costing me a fortune.
I have been reading about people using fleece and does it have to be backed to make it water poof?
I have also been thinking of buying a bulk load of megazorb is this stuff as good as i have heard?
Thank you :{:{:{:{:{:{

I just use fleece on top of newspapers. I have done this for five years and found it to be a very practical system. I do use hay trays, however, and find that they do a lot of wees and poos in the litter trays. These are just drawers from an IKEA children's storage unit.

We started out using fleece but with the size of the cage it was just making a mess. Sawdust was everwhere and it was quite hard to spot clean.

We've switched over to fleece with a towel underneath and then newspaper underneath the towel.

The newspaper gets changed daily and the towel and fleece as and when needed. We do shake the poos off a few times a day.

It doesn't smell at all and there is no more messy sawdust.

Also makes the cage look v pretty :)

Thank you both. I think I am going to have a trip to the local fabric shop tomorrow to see if I can pick some up. I just didn't know if you could buy it with some sort of waterproof backing on. Saying that I bet it would get really soggy and smelly after a day.

The wee wicks through the fleece so it doesn't tend to
Stay wet. I use fleece blankets. Primark ones or Asda ones do the job just fine

I don't think the waterproof backing idea is a very good one as the wee would just get trapped in the fleece itself. Some people buy mattress protectors (the cheap ones from IKEA, I think) and I although I have never used them I am tempted to try that out.

I sell fleece by the metre if you are interested. It is £7 per metre (150cms wide) which I know sounds like a lot but this includes postage and as the fleece is heavyweight (and very durable) and postage is quite expensive.

You can have a look at my website here: www.cavycozies.com. All profits go to rescues. :)

Primark do good fleece blankets if you're on a budget.

If you do decide to use fleece, don't add fabric softener to the wash as this will seal the pile and stop the pee going through ;)

When my pigs were indoors, they lived on fleece and I used puppy training pads underneath to soak everything up. It kept the smell and wetness to a minimum and stopped the washing machine from being overloaded with towels ;)

Oh I have just been having a look I love the green with the robots on it.
Do you accept cheques? Sorry I should have checked while I was on there.
x>> Oh and the lap pads are a fab idea. I get through a towel every night because he always pees on me!

Hello Claire,

Yes, I do accept cheques. Send me a pm with your 'order' and I will send you my address.

If you need a hand working out how much you need, just let me know.
